LiDAR‐Based Storytelling About a Historical Industrial Landscape in Southern Middle Tennessee

open access: yesAmerican Anthropologist, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Industrial landscapes play deep into the imagination of American consciousness, with coal mining rooted in Appalachian culture as both identity and political flashpoint. In Tennessee, coal mining coincided with the convict leasing system that operated across the American South during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Properties of Schwarzian difference equations

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2015
We consider the Schwarzian type difference equation $$ \Big[\frac{\Delta^{3}f(z)}{\Delta f(z)}-\frac{3}{2} \Big(\frac{\Delta^{2}f(z)}{\Delta f(z)}\Big)^{2}\Big]^{k}=R(z), $$ where R(z) is a nonconstant rational function.

Solution of a transcendental equation encountered in diffraction problems

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, 1983
Abstract An analytic expression is obtained for certain solutions of the transcendental equation encountered in the course of solving the diffraction problem for elastic waves on a circular cylinder and sphere, in the high frequency case. A new expression for the Hankel function is obtained in the region where the argument is large in modulo and the ...

Sellars's Master Argument for Conceptualism

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Philosophy, EarlyView.
Abstract This paper reconstructs what I call Sellars's ‘master argument’ for conceptualism regarding Kantian intuitions—a coherent argumentative thread that appears throughout his works beginning with Science and Metaphysics. In contrast to standard interpretations that focus primarily on the role of the categories, I demonstrate that Sellars defends a

Imaginative Synthesis and the Basic Function of the Second Part of Kant's Transcendental Deduction in B

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Philosophy, EarlyView.
Abstract Most recent commentators on Kant's Transcendental Deduction assume that the main purpose of the second part of the B‐Deduction (“BD2”) is to show that human intuitions must fall under categories for reasons connected with their spatio‐temporal form.

Being Wrong About Personal Transformation

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Philosophy, EarlyView.
Abstract Transformative experiences are thought to change us in different ways. Some transform us epistemically by providing genuinely new, previously unimaginable experiences, while others bring about personal transformation by altering our values. Recent debates on transformative experiences have explored the challenges these experiences pose for ...

Utrata Stateczności przez Zniekształcenie Przekroju Poprzecznego Pręta Cienkościennego

open access: yesEngineering Transactions, 1960
We consider a thin-walled bar with closed quadratic cross-section (Fig. 1). The possibility is investigated of stability loss where all the walls buckle in their planes, the axis of the beam remaining rectilinear.
