Transcranial Doppler Sonography

Archives of Neurology, 1994
Despitegrowing interest and a rapidly expanding literature, the clinical usefulness of transcranial Doppler sonography (TCD) has not been universally accepted. 1 Imaging modalities such as venous digital subtraction angiography and xenon 133 enjoyed similar initial enthusiasm only to be relegated to limited indications or abandoned because of ...

Transcranial Doppler Sonography in Children

Journal of Child Neurology, 1989
The blood flow velocities in the basal cerebral arteries can be recorded at any age by transcranial Doppler sonography. By a standardized examination technique, the vessel identification is reliable even without visual control of the site of the sample volume. A stable state of vigilance is necessary to obtain constant recordings.

Transcranial Doppler in brain death

Neurology, 1987
Transcranial Doppler examinations (TCD) of 24 brain-dead adult patients demonstrated persistent movement of blood within the middle cerebral arteries in 21. The characteristic pattern of Doppler shift frequencies, seen in 14, was a sharply contoured, brief anterograde systolic envelope with reversed diastolic flow.

Transcranial Doppler in carotid endarterectomy

Journal of Clinical Neuroscience, 2001
To evaluate the role of transcranial Doppler monitoring in reducing the complications of carotid endarterectomy, by analysing: (1) perioperative intracerebral blood flow velocity; (2) embolic load; and (3) effect of Dextran-40 therapy on patient outcome.Retrospective case series. The study cohort consisted of 30 consecutive patients undergoing 32 ...

Functional Transcranial Doppler Sonography

2006
Functional transcranial Doppler sonography (fTCD) constitutes a complementary neuroimaging tool measuring cerebral perfusion changes due to neural activation. Functional TCD utilizes pulse-wave Doppler technology to record blood flow velocities in the anterior, middle, and posterior cerebral arteries.
