Ultrasound transducers

European Journal of Radiology, 1998
Sonography is facing a new technological revolution. Recent advances in ultrasound technology are increasing spatial, contrast and vascular resolution. Transducers play an important role in achieving these improvements; their technology is widely reviewed in this paper. Physics and technology relate to image quality and its clinical potentials.

Electret transducer backplate, electret transducer, and method of making an electret transducer

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1982
An electret transducer backplate is made of a thermo-softening plastics material rendered electrically conducting by electrically conducting particles distributed therethrough. An electret foil diaphragm is mounted on the backplate and the relative flexural rigidities of the diaphragm and the backplate are such that, in use, the deflection of the ...

Transducers as Projectors

2007
Active sonar and acoustic communication systems rely on electroacoustic transducers which “project” sound that is subsequently detected by hydrophones through a direct path or reflection from a target. Our focus in this chapter is on the projector which is significantly larger and more complex than the hydrophone because of the need to generate high ...

TRANSDUCERS

1966
Publisher Summary This chapter focuses on transducers. The chapter provides an overview of many practical systems incorporating proportional control, both in the fields of engineering and of physiology and have elements in their control pathways which themselves are not constant, but that depend on the level of the process being controlled.

Transducer and transducer measurement system for the PC

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1988
The measurement of several acoustic transducers using a measurement system that is implemented on the PC will be shown. This system uses the ARIEL DSP-16 and a PC-6300. The software developed for this purpose, which is called SYSid, was developed first about 8 years ago, and in the past few years was ported to the PC.

Transducers as Hydrophones

2007
All the applications of underwater projectors described at the beginning of Chap. 5 also require the use of hydrophones. In most active sonar systems the same transducers serve as both projectors and hydrophones, but there are good reasons in some cases to use separate hydrophones for reception, e.g., hydrophones in towed line arrays can be well ...

Sensors and Transducers

1988
In chapter 1 we saw that the first two components of an instrumentation system are usually a primary sensing element such as a spring, which is mechanical in nature, and a transducer. The transducer has the function of converting the input to an electrical form for convenient transmission, data storage or analysis.

Micromechanical transducers

2011
This chapter elaborates the miniaturized micromechanical-based transducers that are applied in various scientific communities and industries. A transducer is a component of a measurement system; the transducers at the input and the output of a measurement system are called sensors and actuators, respectively.

The Wedged Transducer — A Transducer Design for Broad Band Characteristics

Ultrasonic Imaging, 1979
This paper presents a method of increasing the bandwidth of transducers feeding low acoustic impedance loads such as fluids and of electrically matching them over the full bandwidth. It consists of interposing between the transducer and the actual load, a wedge made out of a material having the desired acoustic impedance.
