Transfemoral Amputation

Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1999
The technique of transfemoral amputation has evolved during the last decade whereby muscle stabilization and biomechanical principles have gained new significance. Maintenance of the femoral shaft axis close to normal can be achieved by preservation of the adductor magnus and by myodesis of the muscle to the residual femur.

Transfemoral lumbar epidural venography

American Journal of Roentgenology, 1976
Lumbar epidural venography performed in 107 patients with normal or nondiagnostic myelograms resulted in correct preoperative diagnosis in 25 of 27 patients (92%) with herniated disc disease and three of six patients (50%) with nerve root compression without associated disc herniation.

Characterizing loads at transfemoral osseointegrated implants

Medical Engineering & Physics, 2020
Establishing normative and outlying loads on transfemoral osseointegrated devices will assist development of preclinical mechanical testing strategies to inform manufacturers and government regulators. Therefore, force and moment data from osseointegrated transfemoral transcutaneous implants were collated to better understand baseline load levels. Load

Transfemoral Internal Thoracic (Mammary) Arteriography

Radiology, 1969
The use of arteriography in the evaluation of myocardial implants and coronary arteries is increasing. Transbrachial selective catheterization of the internal thoracic (mammary) artery (4), first described by Arner (1), has been used to evaluate internal thoracic arterial implants in the myocardium (2, 3).

Safe Exchange of a Transfemoral Impella Pump

Cardiovascular Revascularization Medicine, 2019
Mechanical circulatory support with the Impella pump is established in many centers treating patients with cardiogenic shock. While Impella pumps usually run very stable, it may still be possible that one needs to remove the pump for using the same vascular access for different reasons.

Transfemoral: Upcoming Valves

2016
Transcatheter valve implantation via the transfemoral approach has steadily evolved over the past decade. With the publication of large, multicenter trials evaluating the first-generation devices, it is clear that transcatheter valve implantation is a safe and effective treatment for aortic valve disease.

Transfemoral endovascular aortic graft placement

Journal of Vascular Surgery, 1993
The purpose of this study was to develop an endovascular system for transfemoral placement of straight aortic grafts and bifurcated aortoiliac grafts. Both types of graft consist of barbed, self-expanding stents attached to a woven polyester fabric. Survival studies of straight-graft function were performed in six large mongrel dogs. Digital subtraction

Transfemoral Socket Design and Suspension Options

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinics of North America, 2000
The transfemoral socket is the interface between the patient's residual limb and the remaining prosthesis. Whether the patient uses a technologically advanced knee mechanism and foot or a single axis, constant friction knee and solid ankle cushioned heel, no other prosthetic component is as crucial in assuring a comfortable and well-functioning ...

Transfemoral Extraction of an Intracardiac Bullet Embolus

The American Surgeon, 2001
Missiles may reach the heart via direct penetration of the thoracic cavity or indirectly by means of the venous circulation. Often the hemodynamic stability of the patient dictates the approach that is used not only to retrieve the projectile but also to repair associated life-threatening injuries.
