The gait of unilateral transfemoral amputees

open access: yesJournal of Rehabilitation Medicine, 1994
The aim of this study was to describe the gait of persons with a unilateral transfemoral amputation by means of a questionnaire, gait analysis and measurement of energy expenditure, and to find correlations among the variables studied. The study included 29 transfemoral amputees amputated for other reasons than a chronic vascular disease.

Ground reaction forces during double limb stances while walking in individuals with unilateral transfemoral amputation

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2023
The asymmetrical gait of individuals with unilateral transfemoral amputation has been well documented. However, there is not a wealth of investigation into asymmetries during the double limb stance depending on whether the intact or prosthetic limb is ...

Analysis of Interrelationships among Voluntary and Prosthetic Leg Joint Parameters Using Cyclograms

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2017
The walking mechanism of a prosthetic leg user is a tightly coordinated movement of several joints and limb segments. The interaction among the voluntary and mechanical joints and segments requires particular biomechanical insight.

Increased loading of the lateral knee compartment in the unamputated knee during gait in people with unilateral transfemoral/through-knee amputations

open access: yesBone & Joint Research
Aims: People with unilateral transfemoral/through-knee amputations (UTF) are at risk of mechanically mediated contralateral knee osteoarthritis (OA). This study aims to identify the mechanical indicators of the development and progression of unamputated ...

PERFORMANCE OF AN ACTIVITY MONITOR INTEGRATED INTO A MICROPROCESSOR KNEE

open access: yesCanadian Prosthetics & Orthotics Journal, 2018
INTRODUCTION  For many years, the biomechanical evaluation of prosthetic performance has centred around gait analysis and motion capture. While this provides useful, scientific insights, everyday life is not limited to straight-line, level, steady ...

A Scoping Review of Pressure Measurements in Prosthetic Sockets of Transfemoral Amputees during Ambulation: Key Considerations for Sensor Design

open access: yesSensors, 2021
Sensor systems to measure pressure at the stump–socket interface of transfemoral amputees are receiving increasing attention as they allow monitoring to evaluate patient comfort and socket fit.

Bone-anchored prostheses for transfemoral amputation: a systematic review of outcomes, complications, patient experiences, and cost-effectiveness

open access: yesFrontiers in Rehabilitation Sciences
IntroductionBone-anchored prostheses (BAP) are an advanced reconstructive surgical approach for individuals who had transfemoral amputation and are unable to use the conventional socket-suspension systems for their prostheses.

An enhancement of the Genium™ microprocessor-controlled knee improves safety and different aspects of the perceived prosthetic experience for unilateral and bilateral users

open access: yesFrontiers in Rehabilitation Sciences
IntroductionBilateral microprocessor-controlled prosthetic knee (MPK) users have unique needs in traversing environmental barriers compared to unilateral users.

Transapical versus transfemoral approach and risk of acute kidney injury following transcatheter aortic valve replacement: a propensity-adjusted analysis

open access: yesRenal Failure, 2017
Background: The aim of this study was to compare the incidence of post-procedural acute kidney injury (AKI) and other renal outcomes in patients undergoing transapical (TA) and transfemoral (TF) approaches for transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR)
