Design curve for liquid helium storage vessels [PDF]

open access: yes, 1972
Development of equipment for storage of liquid helium is discussed. Derivation of design curve and working equations for estimating effects of either perfect or imperfect heat transfer in storage device are described. Mathematical models of heat transfer

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Manual control analysis of drug effects on driving performance [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
The effects of secobarbital, diazepam, alcohol, and marihuana on car-driver transfer functions obtained using a driving simulator were studied. The first three substances, all CNS depressants, reduced gain, crossover frequency, and coherence which ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Conservative effects in spin-transfer-driven magnetization dynamics

open access: yes, 2013
It is shown that under appropriate conditions spin-transfer-driven magnetization dynamics in a single-domain nanomagnet is conservative in nature and admits a specific integral of motion, which is reduced to the usual magnetic energy when the spin ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Survey of heat transfer to near critical fluids [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
Survey topics include - heat transfer boundaries of near critical region, free, natural, and forced convection experiments, oscillations, geometric effects, parameters which appear to be significant to heat transfer in critical region, and theories which

Pair-transfer probability in open- and closed-shell Sn isotopes

open access: yes, 2012
Approximations made to estimate two-nucleon transfer probabilities in ground-state to ground-state transitions and physical interpretation of these probabilities are discussed.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Simultaneous Effects of Heat Transfer and Variable Viscosity on Peristaltic Transport of Casson Fluid Flow in an Inclined Porous Tube

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Mechanics and Engineering, 2019
The present study investigates the combined effects of varying viscosity and heat transfer on a Casson fluid through an inclined porous axisymmetric tube in the presence of slip effects.
