Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Pupillary axis of a heterocentric astigmatic eye

open access: yesAfrican Vision and Eye Health, 2013
The pupillary axis of the eye is a clinically useful concept usually defined as the line through the centre of the entrance pupil that is perpendicular to the cornea.

Forming ideal types by understanding. Application to the psychoanalytic treatment of suicidal men [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper discusses the application of a qualitative methodology—forming ideal types by understanding—to the psychoanalytic psychotherapy of suicidal men. The paper focuses on a particular phase of the methodology: the validation through external expert

Correlations from ion-pairing and the Nernst-Einstein equation

open access: yes, 2018
We present a new approximation to ionic conductivity well suited to dynamical atomic-scale simulations, based on the Nernst-Einstein equation. In our approximation, ionic aggregates constitute the elementary charge carriers, and are considered as non ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Leila: Phenomena of Dissociation in a Young Adult's Media Interaction. A Case Study in Media-Biography and Psychotraumatology

open access: yesForum: Qualitative Social Research, 2003
The theoretical discussion reflects the correspondence and methodological synergy between the narration theory in qualitative social research studies and the concepts of narration applied in object-relation psychoanalysis and psychotraumatology.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These
