Risk Factors and Surgical Treatment for Recurrent Lumbar Disc Prolapse: A Review of the Literature [PDF]

open access: yesAsian Spine Journal, 2020
We aim to present the current evidence on various risk factors and surgical treatment modalities for recurrent lumbar disc herniation (rLDH). Using PubMed, a literature search was performed using the Mesh terms “recurrent disc prolapse,” “herniated ...

A Retrospective Comparative Study on Arthroscopic‐Assisted Uni‐Portal Spinal Surgery (AUSS/UNSES) Versus Unilateral Biportal Endoscopy for Double‐Segment Lumbar Spinal Stenosis

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
This retrospective comparative study demonstrates that Arthroscopic‐Assisted Uni‐portal Spinal Surgery (AUSS/UNSES) for double‐segment lumbar stenosis achieves equivalent 12‐month clinical outcomes to Unilateral Biportal Endoscopy (UBE), while offering significant perioperative advantages including shorter operative time, reduced drainage and ...

Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion: A Retrospective Study of Long-term Pain Relief and Fusion Outcomes

open access: yes, 2007
No long-term studies exist on the effectiveness of transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion. This study sought to determine postoperative pain, disability, and fusion status of transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion patients after ⩾4 years to establish ...

Galectin‐4: A Novel Mediator of Human Intervertebral Disc Degeneration

open access: yesJOR SPINE, Volume 9, Issue 3, September 2026.
Galectin‐4 correlates with intervertebral disc degeneration, independent of age, sex, or underlying pathology. Functionally, it activates NF‐κB signaling and induces pro‐inflammatory and matrix‐degrading responses, with stronger effects in nucleus pulposus cells, identifying it as a novel molecular player in disc degeneration.

Do we need a transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion cage to increase the stability of functional spinal unit when comparing unilateral and bilateral fixation?

open access: yes, 2018
Transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion was an alternative to posterior lumbar interbody fusion for decompression surgeries. This study investigates the biomechanical responses of the unilateral and bilateral pedicle screw fixations with/without ...

Comparative Clinical and Radiological Outcomes of Arthroscopic‐Assisted Uniportal Spinal Surgery Versus Unilateral Biportal Endoscopy for Unilateral Laminotomy With Bilateral Decompression in Lumbar Spinal Stenosis: A 2‐Year Follow‐Up Study

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 18, Issue 8, Page 1613-1622, August 2026.
This study compares two minimally invasive techniques, arthroscopic‐assisted uniportal spinal surgery (AUSS) and unilateral biportal endoscopy (UBE), for treating lumbar spinal stenosis using unilateral laminotomy with bilateral decompression (ULBD). Over a 2‐year follow‐up, perioperative outcomes, patient‐reported improvement, and radiological changes,
