Fiber optics transforms

2008 10th Anniversary International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks, 2008
We give fiber or planar lightwave circuit (PLC) architectures to implement the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) and the discrete Hartley transform (DHT) directly in the optical domain. In both cases, we present a recursive approach for the decimation-in-frequency algorithm, considering parallel and serial input configurations.

Optical sine transformation

Applied Optics, 1987
The phase mask distribution of optical sine transformation (OST) has been calculated according to the optical general transformation theory. To avoid the diffraction loss of the phase mask, the optical waveguide method is used. Computation shows that the optical sine transformation is possible with only one phase mask, i.e., one-half of a cylindrical ...

Optical Hough transform

Applied Optics, 1986
An optical technique is presented for achieving the Hough transform at video rates. Both coherent and incoherent approaches are discussed and analyzed. An incoherent system which combines edge enhancement with the Hough transform is also considered. Use of the optical Hough transform for the location of the bridges and roadways in outdoor scenes and ...

Optical coordinate transformations

Applied Optics, 1992
A novel technique for designing holographic optical elements that can perform general types of coordinate transformation is presented. The design is based on analytic ray-tracing techniques for finding the grating vector of the element, from which the holographic grating function is obtained as a solution of a Poissonlike equation. The grating function

Adaption of optical Fresnel transform to optical Wigner transform

Physica Scripta, 2010
Enlightened by the algorithmic isomorphism between the rotation of the Wigner distribution function (WDF) and the αth fractional Fourier transform, we show that the optical Fresnel transform performed on the input through an ABCD system makes the output naturally adapting to the associated Wigner transform, i.e.

Transforming optical forces

SPIE Proceedings, 2013
We show how transformation optics can enhance optical gradient forces between two optical waveguides by several orders of magnitude. The technique is based on a coordinate transformation that alters the perceived distance between the waveguides. This transformation can be implemented using single-negative metamaterial thin films.

Transformation Optics

2013
Abstract Transformation optics applies ideas from Einstein’s general theory of relativity to optical and electrical engineering with the aim of designing devices that can do the (almost) impossible: invisibility cloaking, perfect imaging, levitation, and the creation of analogues of the event horizon.

Transformations and Optics

Mathematics Magazine, 1961
The principals of elementary lense optics, as taught in high school physics, may be formalized as follows: I. An ideal lense a is a line (we deal with a plane diagram, a cross-section) to which corresponds a one-to-one transformation of the class of all lines in the plane into itself, such that every line cutting a is concurrent with its transform and ...

Transformation optics with lenses

Imaging and Applied Optics 2016, 2016
We have designed a structure of lenses that acts as an omni-directional, ray-optical, transformation-optics device. We present ray-tracing simulations of the view through this structure.
