Optical Substitution Transforms

Journal of Modern Optics, 1989
Abstract A new family of representations for one-dimensional functions or signals, obtained by performing a variable substitution cascaded with a Fourier transform mainly oriented to spectrum compression, is proposed. Some optical ways of performing such a transform are suggested.

The Optical Image Transformer

Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1951
In principle, the use of longer slits is indicated in spectroscopy wherever the resolution is energy limited. Various problems arise, however, as slits are lengthened beyond the conventional limits. This paper sets forth practical solutions to some of these difficulties through the use of an image transformation method, and discusses the advantages and

Transformation Optics

2012
Transformation optics shows great promise as a new way of designing novel optical and electromagnetic devices based on the idea of using coordinate transformations to generate descriptions of dielectric media. It allows for essentially complete control over the behavior of electromagnetic fields through a suitable choice of medium, determined by a ...

Flat transformation optics

2016 URSI International Symposium on Electromagnetic Theory (EMTS), 2016
This paper presents an approach for the analysis of surface-wave (SW) propagation on modulated surface impedance described through a 2-D coordinate transformation. This approach is based on an extension of geometrical optics (GO) description for plane waves in graded index materials to SWs supported by modulated, impenetrable isotropic or anisotropic ...

Metamaterials and Transformation Optics

2011
Abstract : The report outlines the PI s month of agreed time in the USA (talks at Berkeley, UCSD, and several conferences) and collaborations with US researchers David Smith and Xiang Zhang. The main advance of this year s research is extend the analytical work in transformation optics (relating complex systems to simpler systems with the same spectral

Optical Wavelet Transform [PDF]

open access: possible, 1997
Abstract : We described a joint transform correlator (JTC) that used multiple input images encoded in the spatial domain. This allowed various combinations of cross correlations between input images to be performed. We extended the theory of a JTC to multiple inputs, and provided experimental results for four inputs with an optically-addressed spatial ...

Optical Signals and Transforms [PDF]

open access: possible, 2004
Signals and signal processing methods are treated mathematically through mathematical models. The very basic model is that of a mathematical function. For instance, optical signals are regarded as functions that specify relationship between physical parameters of wave fields such as intensity, and phase and parameters of the physical space such as ...

OPTICAL TRANSFORM TECHNIQUES

Journal of the Royal Microscopical Society, 1962
SYNOPSISFourier transforms are proving to be of increasing value in the solution of problems in many fields of physics; in X‐ray diffraction studies in particular they find many applications. Their use, however, is often regarded as the province of the mathematician rather than of the physicist. This paper is intended to show that many of the useful ...

Optical map transformations

Optics Communications, 1974
Abstract An optical technique for performing general types of map transformations is introduced. Using a coherent system, the object distribution is multiplied by a phase function so that its frequency spectrum constitutes the transformation wanted. Also shown is how imaging systems can be made space variant.

Geometrical transformations in optics*

Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1974
Geometrical image modifications such as coordinate transformations and local translation, inversion, reflection, stretching which require space-variant optical coherent systems are provided by introducing phase filters having a predetermined phase function into optical coherent systems in such a manner that the local phase variations influence light ...
