Electrostatic Charging Tendency of Transformer Oils
IEEE Power Engineering Review, 1984Three different comnercially avaiTable transformer oils were evaluated for their electrostatic charging behavior. One of these oils was found to have a higher charging tendency than the others. The charging behavior of this oil was moisture dependent; drying of the oil raised the charging level while addition of moisture lowered it. All the oils showed

Corona measurements on oil-insulated transformers
Electrical Engineering, 1957A description is given of a technique recently devised which permits the accurate determination of corona. With proper discrimination between external corona in air and internal corona in voids and corners under oil, quantitative measurements may be made on oil-insulated transformers.

Biocorrosion in transformer oils
Tribology International, 1989Abstract The acid value, surface tension, pH value of aqueous extract and oil colour were measured in non-inhibited transformer oils aged by microbiol and thermooxidation effects. It is found that considerable microbial degradation of transformer oil occurs when free water is present in the oil.

Detecting microbubbles in transformer oil
Technical Physics Letters, 2008The growth of microbubbles under the action of a negative pressure wave in transformer oil (TO) has been studied. It is established that microbubbles in TO grow to a detectable size of 100–200 μm. According to the results of calculations, these bubbles can develop from the nuclei of micron and submicron dimensions.

Transformations of semi‐drying oils
Journal of Applied Chemistry, 1958AbstractSeveral processes are described for the separation of semi‐drying oils into a solid fraction with a low degree of unsaturation and a liquid fraction with increased drying properties. The results of directed inter‐esterification (Eckey's process) and elaidinization of soya‐bean oil, herring oil and menhaden oil are described and the properties of

Condition monitoring of transformer oil
1998 International Conference on Power Electronic Drives and Energy Systems for Industrial Growth, 1998. Proceedings., 2005A study of the factors affecting the ageing of mineral transformer oil has been undertaken at CSIRO Telecommunications and Industrial Physics in collaboration with TransGrid and Pacific Power. Oils from various manufacturers have been thermally and electrically aged in the laboratory and their ageing parameters have been compared with field samples ...

Partial discharges in transformer oil
Conference on Electrical Insulation & Dielectric Phenomena — Annual Report 1987, 1987Since a long time the existence of Partial discharges (PD) in transformer oil was doubted because breakdown and inception levels are very close. This confirms the presently accepted fact that [1] PD occur in oil. In the breakdown process the formation of a “bubble” or “cavity” is accepted generally as a part of the initiatory process.

Paraffinic transformer oils-Indian experience
Proceedings., Second International Conference on Properties and Applications of Dielectric Materials, 2003The authors highlight the exercises carried out by CPRI to improve the quality of paraffinic transformer oils beyond that of those available commercially in India. This was achieved by a proper choice of feedstock and process treatment involving hydrofining, acid treatment, etc.

Analysis of transformer oil for transformer condition monitoring
IEE Colloquium on An Engineering Review of Liquid Insulation, 1997International experience shows that large transmission transformers can have service lives in excess of 50 years. For the operator the concern is to be able to identify the onset of unreliability as the end of life approaches. There are a variety of chemical, electrical and physical condition monitoring techniques which can be applied.
