Method for detecting system on power transformer winding deformation

2009 International Conference on Electrical Machines and Systems, 2009
This paper presents a detecting system on power transformer winding deformation which can enhance the diagnostic accuracy to a large degree. The Impulse Frequency Response Analysis (IFRA) method is developed for generating frequency response analysis trace (FRA trace) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithm is used for predicting the transformer ...

Study of transformer winding deformation by frequency response analysis

2013 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting, 2013
This paper proposes a methodology to interpret frequency response measurements of a deformed transformer winding due to conductors tilt. To achieve that, geometrical parameters of a three phase prototype transformer is used to simulate the frequency response of one of the windings using the multi-conductor transmission line model.

Deformation Diagnostic Methods for Transformer Winding through System Identification

2019 International Conference on Data Science and Communication (IconDSC), 2019
Transformers play a critical role in the power system. Dynamics of the power system changes if the transformers are out of service for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance work under contingency situations. Faults, overloading, and mechanical abnormalities causes the incipient and critical damages to the transformer.

Detecting transformer winding deformation fault types based on continuous wavelet transform

2016 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation, 2016
When online detecting transformer winding deformation with impulse frequency response analysis, the time domain characteristics of transient signal could not be depicted by conventional frequency response curves, and the limitations of Fast Fourier Transform could result in deletion of available information.

Use of a Deformation Coefficient for Transformer Winding Diagnostics

International Journal of Emerging Electric Power Systems, 2008
This paper presents a novel method for deformation diagnostics of transformer windings using terminal measurements. The shortcomings of existing practices in locating deformation and determining its extent are discussed. The logical steps involved in devising the new method are elaborated.

On-line monitoring of winding deformation of power transformer

Proceedings of 2001 International Symposium on Electrical Insulating Materials (ISEIM 2001). 2001 Asian Conference on Electrical Insulating Diagnosis (ACEID 2001). 33rd Symposium on Electrical and Electronic Insulating Materials and Applications in System, 2002
The feasibility of estimating transformer winding deformation by measuring short-circuit reactance is expounded. Based on the theoretical research, the on-line measurement system for short-circuit reactance of a transformer is proposed. The study on a power transformer in actual operating condition shows that the on-line method is satisfactory for ...

Insulation characteristics of deformed transformer winding under transient impulse

2017 IEEE Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomenon (CEIDP), 2017
Oil-impregnated paper (OIP) insulation is a widely used insulating material in power transformer, and the insulation structure is often subjected to repeated impulses. Conventional research mainly focuses on the electrical accumulative effect of repeated impulses on the insulation. However, based on our study, only the electrical accumulative effect of

Survey of Frequency Response Analysis on Winding Deformation of Transformers

2019 4th International Conference on Intelligent Green Building and Smart Grid (IGBSG), 2019
As a core equipment in power system, power transformer plays a vital role in the stability of the power grid. It is necessary to quickly and accurately monitor the fault of the transformer. Frequency response method is an important method for fault diagnosis of transformers.

Fault location of transformer winding deformation using frequency response analysis

FRA (frequency response analysis) is the best effective method that can successfully detect transformer winding deformation. This paper tries to diagnose the fault by the winding's physical parameter changes. At frequencies lower than critical frequency, the transformer winding may be modeled as a lossless transmission line that the series capacitance ...

Recognition of power transformer winding movement and deformation using FRA

COMPEL - The international journal for computation and mathematics in electrical and electronic engineering, 2007
PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to present a frequency domain technique for the recognition and location of winding movements and mechanical deformations in power transformers. Both, axial and radial coil movements, as well as changes in clamp pressure will be studied.Design/methodology/approachThe developed algorithm is based on using a ...
