Exploring the influence of donor physiognomic factors on packed red cell unit quality: A retrospective analysis from a tertiary care transfusion center

open access: yesAsian Journal of Transfusion Science
BACKGROUND: Donor physiognomic characteristics play a critical role in determining the quality of packed red cell units (PRBCs), which directly impacts transfusion outcomes.

Studies on reticuloendothelial system and hemato-poiesis, III. Relationship between differentiation of erythroblast and oxygen tension [PDF]

open access: yes, 1965
For the purpose to clarify the control mechanism of erythroid cell differentiation, the author observed morphologic changes in bone-marrow cells and circulating red cells in phenylhydrazine anemia of rabbits by introducing a mass of red cells into vein ...

TRANSFUSION MALARIA

open access: yesThe Lancet, 1967
A global review of the problem of malaria accidentally transmitted by blood transfusion revealed that about 350 cases were reported during the period 1911-50 and 1756 during the period 1950-72. The great rise in the frequency of blood transfusions in medical practice and the increase of travel between countries in which malaria is absent and those ...

Platelet transfusions [PDF]

open access: yesThe Lancet, 2007
Ever since platelet transfusions were shown to reduce mortality from haemorrhage in patients with acute leukaemia in the 1950s, the use of this therapy has steadily grown to become an essential part of the treatment of cancer, haematological malignancies, marrow failure, and haematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

Transcriptional profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles from prebiopsy prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RNA profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) from blood samples of men undergoing prostate biopsy identifies transcripts associated with clinically significant prostate cancer. Integrative analysis with public tumor datasets links EV‐derived gene signatures to tumor stage and progression‐free survival, highlighting CASP3, XRCC2, and RIT1 ...

Choroid Plexus Enlargement and USPIO‐Based Inflammatory Feature in Cerebral Small Vessel Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective The choroid plexus (CP) is a key component of the blood–cerebrospinal fluid barrier (BCSFB), but its mechanism of action in cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) remains unclear. This study investigated CP volume (CPV) alterations and their association with conventional imaging markers in CSVD and explored the underlying role of ...

Outcomes of Outpatient Elective Esophageal Varices Band Ligation in Cirrhosis Patients with Significant Thrombocytopenia

open access: yesDiseases
Background: Current guidelines advise against platelet transfusion prior to emergent esophageal variceal band ligation (EVL) in cirrhotic patients with platelet counts below 50 × 103/μL. However, recommendations for elective EVL remain unclear.

Optofluidic Raman Analysis and Capacity Recovery in Li‐ion Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Operando Raman spectroscopy is used to monitor the degradation of commercial Li‐ion cells. Using a microfluidic access port, small amounts of electrolyte are sampled into a hollow‐core optical fibre, where fibre‐enhanced Raman analysis reveals Li+ solvation changes and solvent evolution.

Low-titer group O whole blood: challenges to blood stations

open access: yesZhongguo shuxue zazhi
Whole blood transfusion for the resuscitation of trauma patients is not a new concept, with its history dating back to World War I. Due to the significant survival benefits of early intervention with whole blood, an increasing number of countries and ...
