Confronting medical grifting: Fraudulent and unproven products and interventions in apheresis, transfusion and biotherapies

open access: yesBritish Journal of Haematology, EarlyView.
A basic overview of medical grifting for haematologists with practical guidance in identification and tips for management. Summary Medical scams or grifting has long been a societal issue, though in recent years, the problem has become increasingly mainstream, especially as it relates to transfusion medicine, apheresis and biotherapies.

Comorbidities and mutations including single‐ and multihit TET2 mutations in relation to outcome in chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia—A population‐based study

open access: yesBritish Journal of Haematology, EarlyView.
In a population‐based cohort of 149 chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia (CMML) patients, multihit TET2 mutation was associated with older age, lower LDH and less leucocytosis. We found no association with autoimmune disease or thrombosis. Patients with multihit TET2 mutation had a significantly longer overall survival than the patients without or with one

A standard blood bank donation improves cardiometabolic health of donors: A double‐blind randomised controlled trial

open access: yesBritish Journal of Haematology, EarlyView.
The upper panel illustrates the study design, including recruitment, randomisation, intervention and oral glucose tolerance tests (OGTTs) conducted 2 weeks before and after. The lower panel shows reductions in serum ferritin associated with lower 2‐h OGTT glucose and lower glucose area under the curve (AUC).

The return of metabolism: biochemistry and physiology of glycolysis

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Glycolysis is a fundamental metabolic pathway central to the bioenergetics and physiology of virtually all living organisms. In this comprehensive review, we explore the intricate biochemical principles and evolutionary origins of glycolytic pathways, from the classical Embden–Meyerhof–Parnas (EMP) pathway in humans to various prokaryotic and ...
