Transgender persons are disproportionately affected by HIV compared to the general population. In this chapter, we hope to shed light on the true burden of HIV on this marginalized population. We will review the factors that contribute to the high prevalence of HIV among transgender persons, in particular, high-risk sexual behaviors and substance abuse.
