How Service Exclusion Affects Rural Depopulation. An Approach Based on Structural Equation Modelling

open access: yesSociologia Ruralis, Volume 65, Issue 3, July 2025.
ABSTRACT This paper explores the relationship between service exclusion and the depopulation phenomenon. To achieve this, we apply structural equation modelling (SEM) to evaluate the lack of development of primary services (healthcare, education, social services, commerce, restaurants and bars, as well as Internet access) at the municipal level ...

Sistemas agrarios sustentables y transiciones en el metabolismo agrario: desigualdad social, cambios institucionales y transformaciones del paisaje en Catalunya (1850-2010)

open access: yesHistoria Ambiental Latinoamericana y Caribeña, 2013

Aridity on the Rise: Spatial and Temporal Shifts in Climate Aridity in Spain (1961–2020)

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, Volume 45, Issue 6, May 2025.
Climate aridity increased between 1961 and 1990 and 1991–2020 in Spain, with 12% of peninsular Spain and the Balearic Islands transitioning towards more arid climate categories, while almost no areas transitioned towards more humid conditions. In the Canary Islands, 16% of the territory transitioned towards more arid categories.

Dynamic reciprocal contributions between Indigenous communities and cultural keystone species: A study case in Western Ecuador

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 7, Issue 5, Page 990-1004, May 2025.
Abstract The reciprocal contributions concept provides a holistic approach to understanding management of natural resources in social‐ecological systems. The purpose of this study was to understand how Indigenous peoples build reciprocal contributions with cultural keystone species (CKS) through their dynamic knowledge systems.

Identifying River Corridors for the Implementation of the Network of Green Infrastructure in Spain

open access: yesFreshwater Biology, Volume 70, Issue 5, May 2025.
ABSTRACT 1. Spatial–temporal connectivity plays a key role in freshwater ecosystems by maintaining processes such as the transfer of materials and energy, gene exchange, and migratory movements necessary for the maintenance of functional ecosystems.

Long‐term interventions by conservation and development projects support successful recovery of tropical peatlands in Amazonia

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 7, Issue 4, Page 871-886, April 2025.
Abstract Rural communities in Amazonia rely on harvesting Mauritia flexuosa fruit, a dominant peatland palm, for their subsistence and income. However, these palms are felled to harvest the fruits, which has led to reduced resource availability due to the pressure exerted by the increasing fruit demand.

Just transition in framework climate laws: Between meaningful governance and performative law

open access: yesReview of European, Comparative &International Environmental Law, Volume 34, Issue 1, Page 155-169, April 2025.
Abstract A growing number of governments are taking legislative measures to advance a ‘just transition’. This emerging legislative practice has, however, gathered limited scholarly attention. To understand the meaning and impact of this novel trend, this article undertakes a comparative case study on the operationalisation of just transition within ...

Metabarcoding Versus Species‐Specific Primers to Estimate Salmo trutta Biomass and Density in Mountain Streams

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 7, Issue 2, March/April 2025.
This study explores the use of environmental DNA (eDNA) as a noninvasive, cost‐efficient tool to monitor trout populations in mountain streams. It found that eDNA concentration correlates positively with trout biomass and density, particularly using general primers for 18S rRNA gene and COI‐Salmo trutta specific primers.
