Frequency Domain Methods for Electromagnetic Transient Analysis

2007 IEEE Power Engineering Society General Meeting, 2007
Frequency domain methods are invaluable as complements to the time domain ones to analyze electromagnetic transients in power systems. This paper presents an overview of those frequency domain methods most commonly used in this analysis; namely, the Fourier transform, the Laplace transform and the Z-transform.

Parallel DGTD method for transient electromagnetic problems

2018 IEEE International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility and 2018 IEEE Asia-Pacific Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC/APEMC), 2018
In this paper, a parallel discontinuous Galerkin time-domain (DGTD) method is developed for transient electromagnetic (EM) problems. In this method, the excitation is introduced by sorts of plane wave through total field/scattered field (TF/SF) boundary condition, and perfect matching layer (PML) is used to enhance reflected wave absorption.

The dual loop configuration of the transient electromagnetic method

Geophysics, 1975
Abstract The transient electromagnetic method offers considerable advantages over conventional electromagnetic systems; these advantages make the method attractive under typical Australian conditions of conductive overburden. A common transient electromagnetic ground system used in Australia is a combined loop version in which the ...

Transient process based electromagnetic flow measurement methods and implementation

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2018
The ordinary electromagnetic flowmeter (EMF) utilizes the steady-state period of the excitation current for measuring the flow rate in order to ensure zero stability and measurement accuracy. In this paper, the transient process of EMF is studied to measure the flow rate so as to realize applications requiring ultra-low power consumption, for example ...

Characterization of lake beds with the transient electromagnetic method

2020
In the course of this thesis, transient electromagnetic (TEM) measurements were carried out on lakes. The aim of these measurements was to determine the geometry of the water bottom and the electrical resistivity of the water and the underlying geological layers. A buoyant ring was built for the application of TEM on the surface of the lakes. The cable

The Probing Depth of Transient Electromagnetic Field Method

Chinese Journal of Geophysics, 2009
AbstractTaking central loop configuration excited by a step pulse on the ground as an example, we study the probing depth of electromagnetic sounding with analytical method, finite difference time domain and timefrequency methods. The aim is to provide a basis for field work design in order to reach the expected target.

A simple method of transient electromagnetic data analysis

Geophysics, 1998
Abstract Time-domain or transient electromagnetic (TEM) methods are used routinely in environmental, hydrogeological, energy, and mineral resources investigations owing to their ease of use and ability to generate diagnostic data. In some typical field situations, the gross structure of the subsurface may be approximately 1-D, so 1-D ...
