X-ray transient sources

Astrophysics and Space Science, 1979
The galactic distribution and physical nature of X-ray transient sources is investigated. Two types of transients are considered. The observational data on 41 X-ray transient sources are given, and the average parameters of hard and soft X-ray transients are estimated.

Transient gamma-ray sources

Proceedings of the Indian Academy of Sciences - Section A, 1971
Gamma-ray production by particles escaping from a pulsar into the surrounding nebula is considered. The gamma-ray emission decreases with time and such pulsar-nebula complexes will be observed as transient sources.

Constraints on Minute-Scale Transient Astrophysical Neutrino Sources [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2019
High-energy neutrino emission has been predicted for several short-lived astrophysical transients including gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), core-collapse supernovae with choked jets and neutron star mergers. IceCube's optical and X-ray follow-up program searches for such transient sources by looking for two or more muon neutrino candidates in directional ...

Transient X-ray sources

Nature, 1975
IN the eccentric-orbit binary model1,2, a compact object is in an eccentric orbit around a more massive, slightly evolved star. If the compact object accretes mass from the stellar wind of the normal star, the accretion rate is time dependent, so that the resulting X-ray emission would show a maximum at periastron (in the absence of absorption ...

On the Radiation from Transient Light Sources

Proceedings of the Physical Society. Section A, 1949
A theoretical treatment is given of the problem of analysing the radiation from transient light sources in the form of clouds of incandescent particles. Recently a method of correlating this radiation with various physical parameters has been suggested by E. F. Caldin.

The Source and Nature of Transient Surges

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1977
Sources of transient voltages or surges due to various phenomena normal to the power station environment are described along with typical waveforms and other parameters of the surges coupled into control circuits. The mechanism by which surges are generated by switching of inductive devices in low voltage control circuits is described in detail.

Transient X-ray sources

Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. A. Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1976
Abstract One of the most striking results of Ariel 5 has been the large number of transient sources which has been observed, including what is probably a new type which is relatively short-lived and one near the Galactic Centre which is also probably distinct from the others since it was also observed as a radio source.

Hydraulic Transients: A Seismic Source in Volcanoes and Glaciers

Science, 1979
A source for certain low-frequency seismic waves is postulated in terms of the water hammer effect. The time-dependent displacement of a water-filled subglacial conduit is analyzed to demonstrate the nature of the source. Preliminary energy calculations and the observation of hydraulically generated seismic radiation from a dam indicate the ...
