Multimachine System Transient Stability Improvement using Transient Power System Stabilizers (TPSS)
IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion, 1986Power system stabilizers (PSS) have been designed and installed [1,2] to improve the dynamic (smnall signal) response of multimachine systems. This paper presents the theory and test results for improving the transient (large disturbance) behaviour of a multimachine system by supplementing the conventional PSS with a transient power system stabilizer ...

Power System Restoration With Transient Stability
Proceedings of the AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence, 2015We address the problem of power system restoration after a significant blackout. Prior work focus on optimization methods for finding high-quality restoration plans. Optimal solutions consist in a sequence of grid repairs and corresponding steady states. However, such approaches lack formal guarantees on the transient stability of

Transient statistics in stabilizing periodic orbits
Physical Review E, 1995The statistics of chaotic and periodic transient time intervals preceding the stabilization of a given periodic orbit have been experimentally studied in a ${\mathrm{CO}}_{2}$ laser with modulated losses, subjected to a small subharmonic perturbation.

In this chapter the reader has been introduced to the basic theory of electromechanical transients in power systems. The relative generator rotor motion has been described by the swing equation. The problem of transient stability has been explained on the basis of the well known but, especially from the tutorial point of view, still valuable equal-area

Transient response and transient stability of power systems
Proceedings of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, 1968The paper presents a case for correlating transient response with transient-stability limit of power systems. An elementary power system provided with fast acting voltage regulators using various feedback signals is analysed in detail. The effect of varying regulator gains on transient response is investigated with the help of gain-locus diagrams on a ...

Transient stability of LHC strands
IEEE Transactions on Appiled Superconductivity, 1999The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) machine will operate at 1.9 K in order to achieve the high bending fields required in the dipole magnets. The cable and coil matrix is designed to be 'porous' in order to allow the He II coolant to penetrate within the cable for stability enhancement.

Transient Stability Limits of Interface Flows
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1988Abstract In large interconnected power systems, transient stability limits of certain interface flows are very important for both planning and operation purposes. In this paper, the extended equal area criterion is used to develop tools able to provide such planning or preventive control suggestions; whenever needed; The concepts of maximum ...

Digital computation of transient stability
Electrical Engineering, 1957A DIGITAL METHOD has been developed for solving the transient stability equations of an electric system in which induction motor performance is critical. All calculations are made using a stored program computer with 2,000 words of storage. Experience which includes 100 sets of step-by-step calculations for three electric systems indicates that the ...

Transient stability of superconducting alternators
IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1975A simulation study is performed for the purpose of determining the transient stability characteristics of superconducting alternators. This simulation is compared with an equal area criterion method. It is found that superconducting machines have good transient stability characteristics, that field forcing is not particularly helpful nor necessary.
