Transient response and transient stability of power systems
Proceedings of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, 1968The paper presents a case for correlating transient response with transient-stability limit of power systems. An elementary power system provided with fast acting voltage regulators using various feedback signals is analysed in detail. The effect of varying regulator gains on transient response is investigated with the help of gain-locus diagrams on a ...

Transient Stability Improvement Using STATCOM
SSRN Electronic Journal, 2019The complexity of modern electrical power system is increasing gradually and becoming a challenging problem of the power system stability, and dominantly to the aspects of the transient stability in the power system. The transient stability plays a crucial role in making sure the fulfilled stable operating condition of power system during the events ...

Transient stability of superconducting alternators
IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1975A simulation study is performed for the purpose of determining the transient stability characteristics of superconducting alternators. This simulation is compared with an equal area criterion method. It is found that superconducting machines have good transient stability characteristics, that field forcing is not particularly helpful nor necessary.

Transient stability control of TCSC
2009 4th IEEE Conference on Industrial Electronics and Applications, 2009This paper studies the strategy of thyristor controlled series compensation (TCSC) to damp power swing in interconnected systems. In interconnected network, TCSC must operate in response to inter-area main swing model, and its capacitive impedance must switch to the largest when the rotated speed deviation between equivalent centers of inertia is ...

Fast Transient Stability Assessment Revisited
IEEE Power Engineering Review, 1986Energy Liapunov-like criteria are devised, their essential characteristics are assessed, and, depending upon the particular needs they are called to meet, the most appropriate among them are identified. The criteria derive from the conjunction of various Liapunov-like functions ("global", "individual", and Taylor series based ones) with two different ...

Transients, Stability and Oscillations
2018This chapter goes beyond the steady-state behaviour of fast skeletal muscle to look at time-dependent behaviour in all forms associated with full Ca2+-activation. A step perturbation in length, ligand concentration or temperature generates transient behaviour in tension and other observables before reaching a new steady-state, and these transient ...

Transient Stability Limits of Interface Flows
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1988Abstract In large interconnected power systems, transient stability limits of certain interface flows are very important for both planning and operation purposes. In this paper, the extended equal area criterion is used to develop tools able to provide such planning or preventive control suggestions; whenever needed; The concepts of maximum ...

Basics of Transient Stability Assessment
2021The basic concepts of transient rotor angle stability are presented in this chapter. The synchronous machine model with its auxiliary controllers and load models are discussed. The procedure to combine all dynamic models with the transmission network model to perform a dynamic simulation is presented.

Transient stability enhancement with UPFC
IET-UK International Conference on Information and Communication Technology in Electrical Sciences (ICTES 2007), 2007In this paper, the most versatile FACTS device UPFC is modelled and implemented in the SMIB (single machine infinite bus) system and standard 9 - bus system (Anderson and Fouad, 1977). The performances of these systems are simulated by using MATLAB. It has been found that the critical clearing time of the system has increased after including the UPFC ...

Risk-based transient stability assessment
PowerTech Budapest 99. Abstract Records. (Cat. No.99EX376), 2003It is shown how to obtain the probability of transient instability and how the different types of uncertainty can be included. An evaluation is made of the severity or consequences of the loss of a generator caused by an out of step condition. While calculating the probability, the transient stability performance of the system needs to be quantified ...
