Advances in Systems Engineering of Carbon Dioxide Electroreduction

open access: yesCarbon and Hydrogen, EarlyView.
Industrializing CO2 electroreduction hinges on holistic systemic synergy and optimization of all process segments rather than isolated catalytic breakthroughs; Process simulation is a core enabler to build a complete capture–conversion–product industrial chain, positioning CO2RR as a key technology for carbon neutrality.

Impact of Distillation Column Design on Potential for the Integration of Mechanical Vapor Recompression

open access: yesChemie Ingenieur Technik, EarlyView.
Mechanical vapor recompression integration in distillation is analyzed, focusing on feed preheating and column pressure drop. Binary methanol–water and benzene–toluene separations are studied to identify optimal designs, which are further assessed in a bioethanol vacuum distillation sequence regarding energetic, ecological, and economic performance ...

Interfacial adsorption characteristics of surfactant‐modified nanoparticles: Equilibrium and dynamic effects of salinity at the oil–water interface

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Surfactant‐modified nanoparticles adsorb at the oil–water interface, enabling interfacial stabilization and microemulsion formation. Abstract This study systematically investigated the interfacial behaviour of silicon dioxide (SiO2) and aluminium oxide (Al2O3) nanoparticles (NPs) functionalized with cationic (CTAB), anionic (SDS), and nonionic (Triton ...

Spatially resolved 23Na magnetic resonance dispersion measurement in porous media

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Quantitative 23Na MRI was employed to analyze dispersion in realistic core plug samples and was compared with the conventional breakthrough curve. 23Na MRI provided a more effective aassessment of core plug heterogeneity than the conventional method. Abstract Tracer tests are widely used in the petroleum industry to assess reservoir core plugs, relying

Evolution of the Martian hydrosphere [PDF]

open access: yes
The concept of the hydrological cycle is one of the greatest achievements in the understanding of nature. Leonardo da Vinci seems to have held two concurrent views of the cycle: an external process in which evaporation from ponded areas leads to ...

In‐situ asphaltene capture with iron oxide nanoparticles in steam‐assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) for improved recovery and partial upgrading of bitumen

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Key improvements obtained by incorporating nanoparticles into a lab‐scale SAGD process configuration. The bar plots show enhanced oil recovery, reduced viscosity, and increased asphaltene adsorption in nanoparticle‐assisted scenarios compared with conventional SAGD.

Risk and vulnerability : the forward looking role of social protection in a globalizing world [PDF]

open access: yes
The paper outlines a forward-looking role of social protection against the background of increasing concerns about risk, and vulnerability, exemplified by the recent East Asian crisis, the concerns of the World Development Report (WDR) 2000, the need for

Performance comparison of pressure swing adsorption and amine‐based absorption for synthesis gas purification

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Comparison of PSA and amine‐based absorption for syngas purification shows that PSA offers lower energy intensity, global warming potential, and minimum selling price, making it a more sustainable option. However, absorption achieves higher syngas purity. A GREENSCOPE‐based multi‐criteria assessment guides optimal process selection.
