Genetic and Environmental Influences on Transitions in Drug Use
Behavior Genetics, 1999Genetic and environmental factors influence drug abuse, but abuse represents the culmination of a sequence of events. Different levels of use may have different determinants and these determinants may differ across drug types. Approximately 3200 male-male twin pairs from the Vietnam Era Twin Registry were interviewed by telephone.

Speciation: The Genetic Transition
2000Abstract The genetic changes leading to the formation of new species are poorly under stood and are the subject of considerable debate. Some evolutionists propose that major gene changes may propel populations into different reproductive or ecological realms and thereby promote speciation (Gottlieb, 1984).

Healthcare Coordination and Transition for Individuals with Genetic Conditions
Maternal and Child Health Journal, 2015This study aimed to examine insurance coverage, use of the healthcare system, satisfaction with care, transition from pediatric to adult healthcare services, and social and emotional support for individuals with genetic conditions. In June 2013, the National Genetics Education and Consumer Network surveyed US individuals with genetic conditions about ...

Adjusting Real-Time Mode Transitions via Genetic Algorithms
2017 16th IEEE International Conference on Machine Learning and Applications (ICMLA), 2017The problem of mode transition schedulability of real-time systems is examined using a genetic algorithm. Due to the mode transition, there can be an overuse of the resource, i.e. the processor(s). A mode transition deadline is a time period in which the outgoing mode(s) have to finish, and then after the mode transition the resource can be completely ...

Transit network design by genetic algorithm with elitism
Transportation Research Part C: Emerging Technologies, 2014Abstract The transit network design problem is concerned with the finding of a set of routes with corresponding schedules for a public transport system. This problem belongs to the class of NP-Hard problem because of the vast search space and multiple constraints whose optimal solution is really difficult to find out.

Simulated Annealing–Genetic Algorithm for Transit Network Optimization
Journal of Computing in Civil Engineering, 2006This paper presents a mathematical stochastic methodology for transit route network optimization. The goal is to provide an effective computational tool for the optimization of a large-scale transit route network to minimize transfers with reasonable route directness while maximizing service coverage.

Optimization of the transition piece applying genetic algorithms
Applied Thermal Engineering, 2011Abstract The geometric optimization of the gas turbine transition piece, applying the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Genetic Algorithms (GA), to obtain a uniform temperature and velocity distribution in the center of the outlet section, is presented.

Mass transit route network design using genetic algorithm
Journal of the Chinese Institute of Engineers, 2010The mass transit route network design (MTRND) problem is a bi-level NP-hard problem and difficult to solve for a global optimum solution. This paper proposes a genetic algorithm for solving the MTRND problem. In the proposed algorithm, two smart generating methodologies are formulated to achieve a better searching space for the initial feasible ...

The importance of genetic counselling for turner syndrome transition
European Child & Adolescent PsychiatryThe healthcare transition (HCT) is the process of planning, monitoring, and adjusting the clinical management from children's care to adult specialists. Although this practice is common for all children, it is especially crucial (and challenging) for those with chronic disorders and genetic conditions that also involve mental health issues, requiring a
