Orbital Physics in Transition-Metal Oxides
Science, 2000An electron in a solid, that is, bound to or nearly localized on the specific atomic site, has three attributes: charge, spin, and orbital. The orbital represents the shape of the electron cloud in solid. In transition-metal oxides with anisotropic-shaped d-orbital electrons, the Coulomb interaction between the electrons (strong electron correlation ...

Oxidation of dodecane on transition metal oxides
Russian Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2012The catalytic oxidation of dodecane on individual and mixed vanadium and molybdenum oxides is studied. Products of the oxidation of alkane are studied qualitatively and quantitatively. The activities of the samples of the catalysts with various ratios of vanadium and molybdenum oxides are compared.

Publisher Summary This chapter examines the nonstoichiometry and electrical conductivity of transition metal oxides (TMO). The most striking feature of TMOs is their ability to tolerate large departures from stoichiometry, mainly a consequence of the variable-valency cations.

Complexity in transition metal oxides
SPIE Proceedings, 2005The competition of antiferromagnetic and d -wave superconductivity order parameters in cuprates is studied within a phenomenological model. An unbiased numerical analysis is carried out. The results suggest that the transition from the antiferromagnetic to the superconducting region is not universal.

Mechanisms for Metal-Nonmental Transitions in Transition-Metal Oxides and Sulfides
Reviews of Modern Physics, 1968Transition-metal oxides and sulfides can be insulators, semiconductors, or metals, or undergo metal-nonmetal transitions. The experimental situation in these materials is briefly reviewed. Pure Bloch-Wilson theory predicts that many of the insulators should be metallic, so this class cannot be explained in terms of pure band theory.

Abstract Some simple transition metal oxides such as NiO have incomplete atomic subshells and yet are highly insulating. This implies a high degree of electronic localization and also indicates that the chemical bonds are saturated. In this respect these oxides are similar to alkaline earth oxides such as MgO.

Electrical transitions in metal oxides
Journal of Solid State Chemistry, 1982A discussion of various electrical and magnetic transitions is provided for the cases of Fe3O4, V3O5, and V2O3. The different mechanisms responsible for these transitions are briefly outlined.
