Metal to semiconductor transition in metallic transition metal dichalcogenides

Journal of Applied Physics, 2013
We report on tuning the electronic and magnetic properties of metallic transition metal dichalcogenides (mTMDCs) by 2D to 1D size confinement. The stability of the mTMDC monolayers and nanoribbons is demonstrated by the larger binding energy compared to the experimentally available semiconducting TMDCs. The 2D MX2 (M = Nb, Ta; X = S, Se) monolayers are

Metal-insulator transition in transition metal oxides

Journal of Physics C: Solid State Physics, 1971
Electronic band structure calculations for TiO, VO, MnO, FeO, CoO, and NiO suggest that the 4s band becomes degenerate with the 3d band at VO and thus helps to destroy the Mott insulator state. The large difference in lattice constant between the metallic and insulating oxides is well accounted for in terms of the Mott transition.

Metal-insulator Transition in Transition Metal Oxides

IBM Journal of Research and Development, 1970
The metal-insulator transition in the V2O3 system is discussed. A recent series of experiments on V2O3 and (V1-xCrx)2O3 is reviewed. The phase diagram fort he system is described. The Cr-doped mixed oxides are insulating at room temperature for x ≥ 0.009 and transform to a metal with the application of pressure. This phase transition is identified as a

Transition Metal Carbide Complexes

Chemical Reviews, 2021
Carbide complexes remain a rare class of molecules. Their paucity does not reflect exceptional instability but is rather due to the generally narrow scope of synthetic procedures for constructing carbide complexes. The preparation of carbide complexes typically revolves around generating LnM-CEx fragments, followed by cleavage of the C-E bonds of the ...

Metal-Insulator Transitions

Contemporary Physics, 1973
Abstract The valence and conduction bands in semi-conductors normally owe their properties to their crystal structures. Sometimes changes in pressure or composition in mixed crystals can lead to an overlap between these bands, which results in a transition to metallic behaviour.

Molecular transition-metal phosphonates

Dalton Transactions, 2011
Molecular transition-metal phosphonates are of relatively recent origin and can be assembled by several synthetic strategies. The nuclearity and the structure of the metal aggregates can be modulated by several factors including the stoichiometry of the reactants, nature of the metal precursor and the type of phosphonic acid used.

Transition metals

2013
This chapter assesses the d-block elements, which form Groups 3–11 and are collectively often referred to as the transition metals. The common feature of these elements is the presence of a partially filled d sub-shell. It is the presence of this partly filled shell which is responsible for most of the special properties which set the transition metals

Transition metal borylene complexes

Chemical Society Reviews, 2013
Borylene ligands (:BR) are isolobal to CO and other iconic organometallic ligands. As such, borylene ligands enjoy some parallels to these ligands, but in many ways, their chemistry is distinct. This tutorial review gives an introduction to the synthesis, properties and reactivity of the major classes of transition metal borylene complexes, including ...
