Understanding transition probabilities

Linguistic Typology, 2011
Dunn et al. (2011) propose an innovative approach to establishing typological correlations. Their fascinating method exemplifies the dynamicization of linguistic typology. Instead of estimating relative frequencies of types, they switch to estimating transition probabilities between types.

Markov transition probabilities. I

Zeitschrift für Wahrscheinlichkeitstheorie und Verwandte Gebiete, 1967
A continuous-parameter Markov process on a general state space has transition function P t (x,E). The theory of regenerative phenomena is applied to the question: what functions of t can arise in this way? Particular attention is paid to processes of purely discontinuous type, to which are extended known results for ...

Transition probabilities in146Eu

Zeitschrift für Physik A Hadrons and nuclei, 1972
Transition probabilities in the odd-odd nucleus146Eu are measured. A recent determination of the lifetime of the 115.6 keV level has indicated a strong retardation of the 115.6 keVM1 transition. In contrast, the present results areT1/2(230.3)≦165 ps,T1/2(115.6)≦160 ps.

Theoretical Transition Probabilities

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1966
The contribution to the intensity of atomic and molecular electronic transitions beyond the Hartree—Fock, or independent-particle model, is examined by means of ``many-electron theory'' (MET). The contribution is of first order in the wavefunctions of the combining states.

Electromagnetic Transition Probabilities

1994
The calculation of electromagnetic transitions is a standard chapter of quantum mechanics, the essential formula being the famous “golden rule” (see, e.g., Heitler 1953, Messiah 1973). However, the resulting final expressions for field-free transitions or for Zeeman transitions which may be found in the literature cannot simply be applied to atoms in ...

Transition Probabilities in Xe V

Physica Scripta, 2005
Transition probabilities have been calculated with the pseudorelativistic Hartree–Fock (HFR) approach in which core-polarization effects have been included for Δn = 0 and Δn = 1 transitions connecting the 5s25p2, 5s25p6p, 5s25p4f and the 5s5p3, 5s25p5d and 5s25p6s configurations of Xe V.

Asymptotic transition probabilities

Journal of Mathematical Physics, 1989
The impact parameter model for the scattering of two heavy particles and a light one is studied. The asymptotic behavior of the transition probability is studied when the relative velocity of the heavy particles goes to zero. In particular, rigorous proof is given from first principles, within the context of the model, of the validity of Massey’s ...

Neon Transition Probabilities*

Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1968
Relative transition probabilities for 12 visible neon lines originating on the 3s2 and 3s3 (Paschen notation) levels of neon have been measured. The experimental technique utilizes the interaction between the output of a helium–neon laser oscillating at 3.39 μ (3s2–3p4) and the excited atoms in a neon discharge.

Transition probability spaces

Journal of Mathematical Physics, 1986
Hilbert-space representations of transition probability spaces are studied. The notions of superposition and the superposition principle are introduced. It is shown that, provided the superposition principle and the postulate of minimal superposition are satisfied, transition probability space can be represented by a generalized Hilbert space.

Transition probabilities in neutral barium

Physical Review A, 1987
We present emission measurements on a hollow-cathode discharge containing barium that were taken with the aid of a Fourier-transform spectrometer (FTS). We have determined the branching fractions for ten upper levels of the neutral barium atom. In the case of the resonance level 6s6p ${}^{1}$P\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}${}_{1}$, we had to ...
