Enhanced coherent transition radiation from midinfrared-laser-driven microplasmas [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
We present a particle-in-cell (PIC) analysis of terahertz (THz) radiation by ultrafast plasma currents driven by relativistic-intensity laser pulses.

Free-electron Brewster-transition radiation [PDF]

open access: yesScience Advances, 2023
We reveal a mechanism to enhance particle-matter interactions by exploiting the pseudo-Brewster effect of gain materials, presenting an enhancement of at least four orders of magnitude for light emission. This mechanism is enabled by the emergence of an unprecedented phase diagram that maps all phenomena of free-electron transition radiation into three

Optical transition radiation based transverse beam diagnostics for nonrelativistic ion beams

open access: yesPhysical Review Accelerators and Beams, 2022
The usage of optical transition radiation (OTR) for profile monitoring of relativistic electron beams is well known. This paper presents the case for beam diagnostic application of OTR for nonrelativistic ion beams.

Coherent transition radiation from attosecond electron pulses [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2019
We show theoretically and by simulations how coherent transition radiation from tilted surfaces can be used for characterization of attosecond free-electron pulses such as used for pump-probe electron microscopy and diffraction.

Longitudinal charge distribution measurement of nonrelativistic ion beams using coherent transition radiation

open access: yesPhysical Review Accelerators and Beams, 2022
Longitudinal charge profile measurements or bunch shape measurements are a challenge for temporally short nonrelativistic bunches. The field profile has a larger longitudinal extent compared to the charge profile for such beams.

Grating transition radiation: A source of quasimonochromatic radiation [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 1999
We have observed transition radiation at optical wavelengths, emitted by 3-13-MeV electrons interacting with a diffraction grating. Near the direction of specular reflection we observed broadband radiation with the same properties as optical transition radiation from a flat surface.

Characterization of non-relativistic attosecond electron pulses by transition radiation from tilted surfaces

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2018
We consider analytically and numerically the emission of coherent transition radiation by few-femtosecond and attosecond electron pulses. With optimized geometries based on tilted surfaces we avoid the influences of the beam diameter and velocity ...

Phenomenology of transition radiation at radio frequencies from ultrahigh-energy showers

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2017
We explore transition radiation at MHz-GHz frequencies as a possible way to detect ultrahigh-energy (UHE) particles. We have developed a general method to calculate transition radiation that extends the well-known Zas-Halzen-Stanev (ZHS) algorithm.

Phase Transformation by 100 keV Electron Irradiation in Partially Stabilized Zirconia

open access: yesQuantum Beam Science, 2021
Partially stabilized zirconia (PSZ) is considered for use as an oxygen-sensor material in liquid lead-bismuth eutectic (LBE) alloys in the radiation environment of an acceleration-driven system (ADS).
