Transition Radiation of Moving Abrikosov Vortices

open access: yes, 2000
We show that Abrikosov vortices moving towards the surface of a superconductor emit electromagnetic radiation into free space. The frequency distribution of the radiated intensity displays a pronounced maximum at microwave frequencies around v_x/lambda ...

Simulation Studies of Delta-ray Backgrounds in a Compton-Scatter Transition Radiation Detector [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
In order to evaluate the response to cosmic-ray nuclei of a Compton-Scatter Transition Radiation Detector in the proposed ACCESS space-based mission, a hybrid Monte Carlo simulation using GEANT3 and an external transition radiation (TR) generator routine

Energy Losses and Transition Radiation in Multilayer Graphene Traversed by a Fast Charged Particle

open access: yes, 2017
We present a fully relativistic formulation of the energy loss of a charged particle traversing a number of graphene layers and apply it to the case of two spatially separated layers probed by an energetic electron.

In vitro properties of patient serum predict clinical outcome after high dose rate brachytherapy of hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Following high dose rate brachytherapy (HDR‐BT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), patients were classified as responders and nonresponders. Post‐therapy serum induced increased BrdU incorporation and Cyclin E expression of Huh7 and HepG2 cells in nonresponders, but decreased levels in responders.

Shaking photons from the vacuum: acceleration radiation from vibrating atoms

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2020
Acceleration radiation—or Unruh radiation—the thermal radiation observed by an ever accelerating observer or detector, although having similarities to Hawking radiation, so far has proved extremely challenging to observe experimentally.

Transition radiation from graphene [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2012
Transition radiation from graphene monolayer is studied theoretically. The cases of normal, oblique and grazing incidence are considered in ultrarelativistic case. The spectral-angular radiation distribution is studied in detail, both for the forward and for backward radiation. The radiation along the monolayer is predicted to exist.

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

Longitudinal wake of a bunch of suddenly accelerated electrons within the radiation formation zone

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2007
The longitudinal wake is considered for a bunch of electrons that are suddenly accelerated to an ultrarelativistic velocity. This wake describes the wake of forward transition radiation, and it approximates the edge-radiation wake of a bunch exiting a ...

Transition Radiation from Rough Surfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
We propose a theory of transition radiation emitted by charged particles entering a rough interface between two media. We show that the radiation process is influenced by surface inhomogeneities distributed both longitudinally and transversally with ...

Screening for lung cancer: A systematic review of overdiagnosis and its implications

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Low‐dose computed tomography (CT) screening for lung cancer may increase overdiagnosis compared to no screening, though the risk is likely low versus chest X‐ray. Our review of 8 trials (84 660 participants) shows added costs. Further research with strict adherence to modern nodule management strategies may help determine the extent to which ...
