Finite Size Scaling in 2d Causal Set Quantum Gravity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We study the $N$-dependent behaviour of $\mathrm{2d}$ causal set quantum gravity. This theory is known to exhibit a phase transition as the analytic continuation parameter $\beta$, akin to an inverse temperature, is varied.

Exchange Rate Regime Transitions

open access: yesIMF Working Papers, 2000
Abstract The “hollowing-out”, or “two poles” hypothesis is tested in the context of a Markov chain model of exchange rate transitions. In particular, two versions of the hypothesis—that hard pegs are an absorbing state, or that fixes and floats form a closed set, with no transitions to intermediate regimes—are tested using two alternative ...

Coups, Regime Transitions, and Institutional Change [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2019
Coups and regime transitions are events that typically are intended to change the basic institutional framework of a country. Which specific policies change and the consequences of these changes nevertheless remains largely unknown. Change after a coup or transition implies that some form of political or judiciary barrier has been erected or removed ...

Clinical Insights Into Hypercalcemia of Malignancy in Childhood

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hypercalcemia of malignancy (HCM) is a rare but life‐threatening metabolic emergency in children that occurs in less than 1% of pediatric cancer cases, with a reported incidence ranging from 0.4% to 1.0% across different studies. While it is observed in 10%–20% of adult malignancies, pediatric HCM remains relatively uncommon.

Observation of Critical Amplitude Fluctuations near the Two Dimensional Superconductor-Insulator Transition

open access: yes, 1999
We report results of transport measurements in the quantum critical regime of the disorder tuned, 2D superconductor-insulator transition (SIT) in homogeneously disordered films.

Survival Outcomes and Complications Among Canadian Children With Retinoblastoma: A Population‐Based Report From CYP‐C

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose Retinoblastoma (RB) is the most common pediatric ocular cancer, yet population‐based data on survival and risk factors remain limited. This study aimed to describe survival in a large national RB cohort and identify predictors of death and complications.

Outcomes of Live Virus Vaccination in Patients With Vascular Anomalies Being Treated With Sirolimus

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Live vaccination in patients with vascular anomalies (VA) receiving sirolimus remains controversial due to immunosuppressive effects and theoretical risks. Procedure This single‐center retrospective study included patients with VA less than 4 years old at the start of sirolimus therapy who were incompletely vaccinated.

Universal properties for linelike melting of the vortex lattice

open access: yes, 1998
Using numerical results obtained within two models describing vortex matter (interacting elastic lines (Bose model) and uniformly frustrated XY-model) we establish universal properties of the melting transition within the linelike regime.

Prevalence and Trajectory of Household Material Hardship Among Children With Advanced Cancer

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background/Objectives Families of children with advanced cancer living in poverty experience inferior outcomes including poor parent mental health and worse child quality of life. Household material hardship (HMH: food, housing, transportation, and/or utility insecurity) is a modifiable poverty exposure—and potential intervention target—that ...
