Highly optimized transitions to turbulence [PDF]
We study the Navier-Stokes equations in three dimensional plane Couette flow geometry subject to stream-wise constant initial conditions and perturbations. The resulting two dimensional/three component (2D/3C) model has no bifurcations and is globally (non-linearly) stable for all Reynolds numbers R, yet has a total transient energy amplification that ...

Computational Modeling Meets 3D Bioprinting: Emerging Synergies in Cardiovascular Disease Modeling
Emerging advances in three‐dimensional bioprinting and computational modeling are reshaping cardiovascular (CV) research by enabling more realistic, patient‐specific tissue platforms. This review surveys cutting‐edge approaches that merge biomimetic CV constructs with computational simulations to overcome the limitations of traditional models, improve ...

Effects of the Uncertainty of Wall Distance on the Simulation of Turbulence/Transition Phenomena
The uncertainty of the turbulence/transition model is a problem with relatively high attention in the CFD area. Wall distance is an important physical parameter in turbulence/transition modeling, and its accuracy has a large effect on numerical ...

Rotating disks and cones a centennial of von Kármán’s 1921 paper
It is now more than 100 years since the work of von Kármán (1921) on the boundary-layer flow over a rotating disk was published in the first volume of Zeitschrift für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik (ZAMM, Vol. 1(4), pp 233-252).

Simvastatin mitigates placental hypoperfusion in OAPS by ameliorating abnormal uteromaternal hemodynamics and enhancing trophoblast invasion via optimized endothelial cell interactions under pathological shear stress, as evidenced by results from a placenta‐on‐a‐chip platform.

Enhanced Endoscopic Internal Drainage of Gastric Abscess Through Additively Manufactured Stents
Postoperative gastric leaks are often treated with off‐label biliary double‐pigtail stents, yet conventional extruded designs are not optimized for leak anatomy, can migrate, and may limit abscess evacuation. PETALS is introduced to optimize transmural drainage geometry and enable patient‐specific 3D‐printable stents.

Transition to turbulence in slowly divergent pipe flow
The results of a combined experimental and numerical study of the flow in slowly diverging pipes are presented. Interestingly, an axisymmetric conical recirculation cell has been observed.

This study developed a bioprinted co‐culture system embedding rat pancreatic islets and Scenedesmus sp. microalgae spatially defined in close vicinity. Red light was found optimal to ensure microalgal photosynthesis while maintaining islet viability and functionality. A tailored co‐culture medium supported both cell types.

Transition from the chaotic turbulence to the turbulent structures
Weak turbulence, similar to incoherent light, may be represented as an ensemble of quasi-free quanta or Fourier harmonics. Unlike it, strongly turbulent state should be based on nonlinear structures.

A superhydrophobic 3D cell culture platform enables rapid and consistent formation of heterotypic tumor–stroma clusters, and reveals how physiological shear conditions influence metastatic signaling. Mechanical stimulation of cancer‐associated fibroblasts promotes sustained cytokine secretion and survival‐promoting pathways, showing how multicellular ...
