Instantaneous Normal Modes and the Glass Transition [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 1995
The "instantaneous" normal mode (INM) spectrum for a model soft-sphere system is calculated via molecular-dynamics computer simulation for a variety of temperatures both above and below the observed glass transition temperature. In such spectra, the modes can be classified as either real or imaginary frequency.

Study of the Superconducting to Normal Transition [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Superconductivity and Novel Magnetism, 2019
A model, based on classical mechanics and thermodynamics and valid for \textit{all} superconductors, is devised to investigate the properties of the \textit{current-driven}, superconducting to normal transition. This process is shown to be reversible. An original derivation of the BCS variational procedure is given.

An objective Bayesian method for including parameter uncertainty in ensemble model output statistics

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
Conventional model output statistics and ensemble model output statistics methods for calibrating ensemble forecasts lead to severe underestimation of the probabilities of ensemble extremes (in blue). This is because they ignore statistical parameter uncertainty.

Pluralistic Research Designs in Management and Organization Studies: Integrating Paradigms Through Structural and Anti‐structural Frameworks

open access: yesBritish Journal of Management, EarlyView.
Abstract This paper focuses on pluralistic research designs in management and organization studies. While advocates often present such approaches as a means of reconciling practical relevance with scientific rigour, their philosophical coherence remains underexplored, particularly in relation to the paradigm debates of the 1980s and 1990s. Our analysis

Thermal fission rate around superfluid-normal phase transition [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review C, 1996
Using Langer's $Im F$ method, we discuss the temperature dependence of nuclear fission width in the presence of dissipative environments. We introduce a low cut-off frequency to the spectral density of the environmental oscillators in order to mimic the pairing gap.

Aggregated Compensation Peer Group Disclosure and Managerial Labor Market Competition: A Network Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Accounting Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In this paper, we develop novel measures of managerial labor market classification and competition by constructing networks of compensation benchmarking peers disclosed in proxy statements. These networks represent firms’ relative positions within the managerial labor market.

(De)composing sociality: Disentangling individual‐specific from dyad‐specific propensities to interact

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, EarlyView.
Abstract In group‐living animals, relationships between group members are often highly differentiated. Some dyads can maintain strong and long‐lasting relationships, while others are only connected by weak or fleeting ties. More and more studies show that aspects of social relationships are related to reproductive success and survival.

Becoming ‘(Ab-)Normal’: Normality, Deviance, and Doing Life Course Transitions

open access: yes, 2022
AbstractThis chapter examines how a particular kind of life course transitions, those between affiliations to categories of “human distinctions” like gender, ethnicity, or age, are culturally observed in terms of their normality or deviance. It asks how framings and doings of such transitions as (not) ‘normal’ are related to those of individuals in ...

Critical Fluctuations in Normal-to-Superconducting Transition [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We study the phase transition to the superconducting state taking into account the fluctuations of the order parameter and of the vector magnetic field and discuss the question of the order of transition occuring in this model. We use the field-theoretical renormalization group approach and consider in two-loop approximation the gauge model for a ...

Commerce, coalitions, and global value chains: Coordinated and collective lobbying on trade

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Political Science, EarlyView.
Abstract Global value chains (GVCs) have connected firms in complex networks within and across national borders. However, political economy models often assume away production linkages and thus fail to explain pervasive and diverse trade coalitions cutting across industries and firms. I develop a GVC‐centered framework where production linkages through
