Protein translocation genetics
1995Publisher Summary This chapter presents the update to the progress in studies of the protein translocation system in E. coli, with emphasis placed on genetic analyses of the translocation machinery. It is suggested that the significance of genetic analysis is at least two-fold.

Journal of Bioenergetics and Biomembranes, 1990
Recent years have seen the convergence of both genetic and biochemical approaches in the study of protein translocation in E. coli. The powerful combination of these approaches is exemplified in the use of an in vitro protein synthesis-protein translocation system to analyze the role of genetically defined components of the protein translocation ...

Molecular genetic characterization of Robertsonian translocations in cattle
Journal of Animal Breeding and Genetics, 2001The chromosome fusion of acrocentric chromosomes, known as Robertsonian translocations, are the most common chromosome rearrangement in Bovidae. Cytogenetic studies revealed differences between the centromeres of Robertsonian translocations: the rob(1; 29) is called monocentric, whereas rob(14; 20) is a dicentric chromosome.

Genetic structure in Elk persists after translocation
The Journal of Wildlife Management, 2018ABSTRACTElk (Cervus canadensis) translocation success is thought to be facilitated by high post‐release herd cohesion and limited movements; both should ensure genetic mixing following release. Such mixing is important to reduce potential effects of inbreeding or genetic drift, which can be especially important in small founding populations.

Gross Deletions and Translocations in Human Genetic Disease
2006Translocations and gross deletions constitute an important cause of both cancer and inherited disease. Such gene rearrangements are non-randomly distributed in the human genome as a consequence of selection for growth advantage and/or the inherent potential of some DNA sequences to be frequently involved in breakage and recombination.

Molecular Genetics of the t(15;17) Translocation in Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia
1993Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia (APL) is a distinct subset of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) (FAB-M3 according to the French-American-British Cooperative Group). It is morphologically distinguished by the presence of hyper-granular leukemic blasts (Sultan et al. 1973; Bennett et al. 1976).

The SecY translocation complex: convergence of genetics and structure
Trends in Microbiology, 2007All organisms share a requirement for translocation of proteins across membranes. The major mechanism for this process is the universally conserved SecY/Sec61 pathway. Many years of extensive genetic and biochemical analyses identified the components of the SecY/Sec61 pathway, demonstrated that most exported proteins use this route for translocation ...

Genetic Sexing and Translocations in Ceratitis Capitata
1986Genetic sexing can be defined as the use of genetic mechanisms to produce unisexual male progenies for release in an insect control programme. The advantages of an all male release can include economic savings and better biological efficiency of the released males.

Guidelines for genetic management in mammal translocation programs
Biological Conservation, 2019Abstract Adequate levels of genetic diversity are important for the long-term success of translocated populations. Typically, population genetic theory and mathematical models are used to inform expected outcomes in different contexts. However, difficulties arise when trying to translate theoretical expectations into management actions.
