Interrelated factor demands for manufacturing: A dynamic translog cost function approach

European Economic Review, 1989
Abstract In this paper we report the results of estimating a joint model for labour, capital and energy using the transcendental logarithmic cost function of Christensen, Jorgenson and Lau (1973). This allows us to determine both the own price and cross elasticities of substitution between labour, capital and energy.

ESTIMATES OF COBB-DOUGLAS AND TRANSLOG PRODUCTION FUNCTIONS FOR MILK

1985
The results of this paper suggest that a modified translog function (MTL) is a suitable functional form to model milk production. Marginal products estimated from the MTL. model are, in general, quite similar to their Cobb- Douglas (C-D) counterparts.

Translog Cost Functions: An Application for Mexican Manufacturing.

2007
We use translog cost functions to estimate own-price and substitution elasticities of input demands, economies of scale and average costs in Mexican manufacturing. Data from the Mexican Annual Industrial Survey is used for 1996, 2000 and 2003. We show that a model that allows for nonhomotheticity and nonunitary elasticities of substitution is ...

Measuring Scale Efficiency Change Using a Translog Distance Function

International Journal of Business and Economics, 2007
We derive a measure of scale efficiency change in the case of a translog output-oriented, multi-input, multi-output distance function without imposing restrictions in previous analogous works by Ray (1998, 1999) and Balk (2001). This may be particularly useful in productivity analysis based on the Malmquist productivity index.

The Global Properties of the Minflex Laurent, Generalized Leontief, and Translog Flexible Functional Forms

Econometrica, 1985
\textit{D. W. Caves} and \textit{L. R. Christensen} [Amer. Econ. Rev. 70, 422- 432 (1980)] have provided a procedure for displaying the regular regions of a flexible functional form in the 2-good homothetic and nonhomothetic cases and in the 3-good homothetic case.

A TRANSLOG COST FUNCTION ANALYSIS OF U.S. AGRICULTURE: A DYNAMIC SPECIFICATION

2003
This study has used an empirical approach developed by Urga and Walters (2003) to examine the implications of the short-run specification of the standard translog cost specification along with the possible implications of non-stationarity. We have estimated a dynamic translog cost specification complete with dynamic share equations for U.S. agriculture

The translog utility function and the Tornqvist quantity index

2020
We re-visit the proposition: utility-change for the translog utility function equals the corresponding Tornqvist quantity index. We observe that the "linear" terms in the translog function must be zero for the result to obtain. We also report on the role of the assumption of homogeneity for the utility function in allowing the result to obtain.
