AbstractApplication of the translog profit function to farm‐level data from Punjab, India, allowed a more disaggregated analysis of the farm production structure compared to the case of Cobb‐Douglas formulation. The flexibility afforded by translog formulation permitted measurement of the different impacts that exogenous variables have within and ...

Abstract A flexible form must have certain properties, in order to represent a restricted profit function. These are discussed, and a comparison is made between the translog and the generalised Leontief functional form, with and without homogeneity of degree one in the fixed factors.

PSEUDO DATA AS A TEACHING TOOL: APPLICATION TO THE TRANSLOG, MULTIPRODUCT PROFIT FUNCTION
1986This paper argues that the use of "laboratory" data sets can add substantially to the teaching of production economics at the graduate level. Optimal experimental designs for generating pseudo data from a process model are discussed. These are shown to depend of the functional form to be estimated.

Estimating X-Efficiency in Taiwanese Banking Using a Translog Shadow Profit Function
Journal of Productivity Analysis, 2000A multiproducttranslog normalized shadow profit function is used to examineX-efficiency and related issues with respect to Taiwan's bankingsector. The model developed here is theoretically more appropriatecompared to that proposed by Berger, Hancock, and Humphrey (1993);as the former is obtained within the framework of profit maximization.Parameter ...

Economic Efficiency Of Fadama Telfairia Production In Imo State Nigeria: A Translog Profit Function Approach [PDF]
The study delved into economic efficiency analysis of Fadama Telfairia farmers in Imo State, Nigeria. Specifically, it identified the production systems; estimated the economic efficiency and their determinants. A multistage random sampling technique was adopted in the selection of 40 Fadama Telfairia farmers from each of the three agricultural zones ...
