Tailoring Functional Properties of Ti–Ni–Cu Shape Memory Alloy Thin Films for MEMS Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A comprehensive study of critical parameters required to develop well‐performing Ti–Ni–Cu thin film shape memory alloy microactuators is provided. Materials science and device integration aspects are integrated by addressing structural and physical relationships using complementary characterization techniques as well as a practical fabrication solution

Characterisation of polar (0001) and non-polar (11-20) ultraviolet nitride semiconductors

open access: yes, 2012
UV and deep-UV emitters based on AlGaN/AlN heterostructures are very inefficient due to the high lattice mismatch of these films with sapphire substrates, leading to high dislocation densities.

Aberration correction for low voltage optimized transmission electron microscopy

open access: yesMethodsX, 2018
Further development of low voltage electron microscopy leads to an aberration correction of the device in order to improve its spatial resolution. The integration of a corrector to a desktop transmission electron microscope with exclusively low-voltage ...

Creep‐Induced Microstructural Evolution in an A2‐B2 Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A 27.3Ta‐27.3Mo‐27.3Ti‐8Cr‐10Al (at.%) refractory high‐entropy alloy with precipitation‐strengthened A2‐B2 microstructure was studied by creep tests at 1030°C, which demonstrate a transition in deformation mechanisms in the range of 100–150 MPa applied stress. This is associated with changes in dislocation–precipitate interactions. Relevant deformation

The synthesis, self-assembly and analysis of amphiphilic polymers : developing microscopy techniques using graphene oxide and building catalytic palladium nanostructures [PDF]

open access: yes
Chapter 1 is an introduction to the solution self assembly of amphiphilic polymers. Initially focusing on the complexity involved in the formation of these structures, followed by a review of the common analysis techniques used to characterise them ...

Wave-front phase retrieval in transmission electron microscopy via ptychography

open access: yes, 2010
There are many different strategies that allow the solving of the well-known phase problem corresponding to the loss of phase information during a physical measurement. In microscopy, and, in particular, in transmission electron microscopy, most of these

Preparation of Candida albicans Biofilms for Transmission Electron Microscopy

open access: yesBio-Protocol, 2013
Transmission Electron Microscopy is a form of microscopy that allows for imaging of distinct portions of an individual cell. For Candida albicans biofilms, it is often used to visualize the cell walls of fixed samples of yeast and hyphae.

Influence of Test Temperature and Test Frequency on Fatigue Life of Aluminum Alloy EN AW‐2618A

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of test temperature and test frequency on the fatigue life of EN AW‐2618A is investigated. High‐cycle fatigue tests are performed at different test temperatures and frequencies on the 1000 h/230°C overaged state. Both test parameters reduce fatigue life due to time‐dependent damage mechanisms.
