Sending-or-Not-Sending Twin-Field Quantum Key Distribution with a Passive Decoy-State Method

open access: yesEntropy, 2022
Twin-field quantum key distribution (TF-QKD) has attracted considerable attention because it can exceed the basic rate-distance limit without quantum repeaters.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

TRANSMISSION NETWORK EXPANSION WITH TRANSMISSION LOADING RELIEF

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electronics Signals and Systems, 2014
Transmission planning should seek to maintain or improve system security over time and facilitate robust wholesale power markets by improving transmission capacity for bulk power transfers across wide regions It includes finding the optimal plan for the electrical system expansion, it must specify the transmission lines and/or transformers that should ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

“Astropolitics” and weaponisation of space—Drawing past lessons to address space arms' escalation

open access: yesFrontiers in Political Science
Once a distant dream, today space is not only achievable, but has become the most important domain for both civilian and military purposes. Modern society and its economy have come to vitally rely on space assets for running crucial services, from ...

High Genetic Diversity of HIV-1 and Active Transmission Clusters among Male-to-Male Sexual Contacts (MMSCs) in Zhuhai, China

open access: yesViruses, 2023
Monitoring genetic diversity and recent HIV infections (RHIs) is critical for understanding HIV epidemiology. Here, we report HIV-1 genetic diversity and RHIs in blood samples from 190 HIV-positive MMSCs in Zhuhai, China.

Technique developed for measuring transmittance of optical birefringent networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 1968
The transmission characteristics of synthesized optical single-pass and double-pass birefringent networks is obtained by measuring network transmission as a function of network temperature.
