Meta‐Rod Mechanical Metamaterials With Programmable Reconfiguration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Existing mechanical metamaterials achieve programmable large deformations in planar square or cubic configurations, restricted by required complex boundary conditions. This research proposes a 1D metamaterial, Meta‐rod, with linear, bending, twisting, area, and volume deformation modes.

Optimal Transmission Switching and Grid Reconfiguration for Transmission Systems via Convex Relaxations

open access: yesElectricity
In this paper, we formulate optimization problems and successive convex relaxations to perform optimal transmission switching (OTS) in order to operate power transmission grids more efficiently.

Fast polarization insensitive optical shutters using dual frequency liquid crystals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Most of the existing displays and optical shutters based on liquid crystals work in combination with linear polarizers. This implies that often more than half of the light is lost due to optical loss in the polarizers and/or the fact that the incoming ...

Domain Wall Rebounds Driven by Competing Entropic and Spin‐Transfer Torques in Cylindrical Nanowires

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Domain‐wall motion in cylindrical magnetic nanowires driven by nanosecond current pulses. Low current densities efficiently displace domain walls, whereas higher currents cause rebound at the wire ends. The effect results from the interplay between spin‐transfer torque and thermally induced processes, highlighting the role of thermal gradients in ...

Imaging of Biphoton States: Fundamentals and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Quantum states of two photons exhibit a rich polarization and spatial structure, which provides a fundamental resource of strongly correlated and entangled states. This review analyzes the physics of these intriguing properties and explores the various techniques and technologies available to measure them, including the state of the art of their ...

High speed all optical networks [PDF]

open access: yes
An inherent problem of conventional point-to-point wide area network (WAN) architectures is that they cannot translate optical transmission bandwidth into comparable user available throughput due to the limiting electronic processing speed of the ...

Intermediate Resistive State in Wafer‐Scale Vertical MoS2 Memristors Through Lateral Silver Filament Growth for Artificial Synapse Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In MOCVD MoS2 memristors, a current compliance‐regulated Ag filament mechanism is revealed. The filament ruptures spontaneously during volatile switching, while subsequent growth proceeds vertically through the MoS2 layers and then laterally along the van der Waals gaps during nonvolatile switching.

Comparison of Transient Mitigation through Synchronous Closing and Capacitor Switching in 150 kV Networks

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrical, Energy and Power System Engineering
This study addresses the challenge of transient voltage and current surges caused by capacitor bank switching in high-voltage transmission systems, which can compromise equipment integrity and system stability.

Integration of Low‐Voltage Nanoscale MoS2 Memristors on CMOS Microchips

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the first monolithic integration of nanoscale MoS2‐based memristors into the back‐end‐of‐line of foundry‐fabricated CMOS microchips in a one‐transistor‐one‐resistor (1T1R) architecture. The MoS2‐based 1T1R cells exhibit forming‐free, nonvolatile resistive switching with ultra‐low operating voltages, low cycle‐to‐cycle variability ...

Analysis of Soft Switching Conditions for Push-Pull Current Type Bidirectional DC/DC Converter

open access: yesIEEE Access
This article first introduces the working principle of a push-pull current type DC/DC converter, analyzes the transient working process of the converter within one working cycle of the control signal, and draws the relevant waveforms of the main ...
