Parasites and pathogens (hereafter referred to collectively as parasites) can have devastating consequences for the individuals they infect, with Ebola and Zika being (at the time of writing) only the most recent examples in a very long list.

Hybrid quantum key distribution using coherent states and photon-number-resolving detectors [PDF]
We put forward a hybrid quantum key distribution protocol based on coherent states, Gaussian modulation, and photon-number-resolving (PNR) detectors, and show that it may enhance the secret key generation rate (KGR) compared to homodyne-based schemes ...

The PI3Kδ inhibitor roginolisib (IOA‐244) preserves T‐cell function and activity
Identification of novel PI3K inhibitors with limited immune‐related adverse effects is highly sought after. We found that roginolisib and idelalisib inhibit chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) cells and Treg suppressive functions to similar extents, but roginolisib affects cytotoxic T‐cell function and promotion of pro‐inflammatory T helper subsets to a

Reflection–transmission algebras [PDF]
Inspired by factorized scattering from delta-type impurities in (1+1)-dimensional space-time, we propose and analyse a generalization of the Zamolodchikov-Faddeev algebra. Distinguished elements of the new algebra, called reflection and transmission generators, encode the particle-impurity interactions.

Multistability at arbitrary low optical intensities in a metallo-dielectric layered structure
We show that a nonlinear metallo-dielectric layered slab of subwavelength thickness and very small average dielectric permittivity displays optical multistable behavior at arbitrary low optical intensities.

Qubit-Programmable Operations on Quantum Light Fields [PDF]
Engineering quantum operations is one of the main abilities we need for developing quantum technologies and designing new fundamental tests. Here we propose a scheme for realising a controlled operation acting on a travelling quantum field, whose ...

Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Evidence of Subsurface Control on the Coevolution of Hillslope Morphology and Runoff Generation
Topography is a key control on runoff generation, as topographic slope affects hydraulic gradients and curvature affects water flow paths. Simultaneously, runoff generation shapes topography through erosion, affecting landscape morphology over long ...

The theoretical relationships between simple and cross-covariances of the transmissivity and the hydraulic head, deduced from the linearisation of the flow equation are used for cokriging transmissivity field with data from one then two quasi steady ...
