Effect of Chemical Irritation of the Peritoneum on Transmural Migration of Intestinal Organisms

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1949
SummaryChemical peritonitis induced by repeated injections of monolate or gum-tragacanth in rabbits and dogs results in the appearance of E. coli in pure culture, in small to moderate numbers, in the inflamed peritoneum. Once this contamination is established, it continues for some time after the injections are discontinued. Eventually all cultures are

Transmural migration of a surgical compress into the stomach after splenectomy: a case report [PDF]

open access: yesCases Journal, 2009
A surgical compress retained in the abdominal cavity following surgery is a serious problem. Here, we describe a 33-year-old female who was admitted with abdominal pain, vomiting, no passage of gas or feces, and abdominal distension for 3 days. She had a splenectomy at another medical center 4 years previously.

Transmural Migration of Surgical Sponge Evacuated by Defecation: Mimicking an Intraperitoneal Gossypiboma [PDF]

open access: yesKorean Journal of Radiology, 2006
The spontaneous defecation of the surgical retained sponge is very rare. Here, we report a case of migrating surgical sponge that was retained in the colon and it was evacuated by defecation.

Comparative outcomes of endoscopic ultrasound-guided lumen-apposing mental stents drainage for pancreatic pseudocysts and walled-off necrosis: Case series and meta-analysis

open access: yesChronic Diseases and Translational Medicine, 2021
Background: Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided transmural drainage for pancreatic fluid collections (PFCs) has become the first-line treatment with quicker recovery and more minor injury compared with surgery and percutaneous drainage.

CRISPR-Cas9 editing of TLR4 to improve the outcome of cardiac cell therapy

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Inflammation and fibrosis limit the reparative properties of human mesenchymal stromal cells (hMSCs). We hypothesized that disrupting the toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) gene would switch hMSCs toward a reparative phenotype and improve the outcome of cell ...

Defect‐engineered tungsten oxide nanowires as redox‐metabolic nanozymes for gut inflammation‐infection syndromes

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
Defect‐engineered WO3 nanowires serve as a multifunctional nanozyme platform to treat IBD complicated by Salmonella co‐infection. By integrating catalytic ROS/RNS scavenging and targeted metabolic interference of pathogens via molybdenum substitution, these nanowires effectively resolve intestinal oxidative stress, inhibit infection, and restore ...

Pathogen‐Specific Bloodstream Infections Associated With Tumour Necrosis Factor‐α Inhibitors, Vedolizumab and Ustekinumab in Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Danish Nationwide Case‐Control Study 2010–2024

open access: yesAlimentary Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
In this nationwide study of patients with inflammatory bowel disease, TNF inhibitor use was associated with higher bloodstream infection rates, whereas vedolizumab and ustekinumab was not. Associations differed by pathogen species, and concomitant glucocorticoid use was associated with higher infection rates.
