Various transparent ceramics have been fabricated by different processing techniques. Previously, it was accepted that, to be transparent ceramics, materials should have an isotropic lattice structure, i.e., cubic structure. However, as demonstrated in this chapter, some non cubic-structured materials can also be processed into transparent ceramics ...

Fabrication of LaGdZr2O7 transparent ceramic
Journal of the European Ceramic Society, 2013Abstract A simple combustion method was used to synthesize LaGdZr2O7 powder and LaGdZr2O7 transparent ceramic was prepared by vacuum sintering at 1850 °C for 6 h. The final transparent ceramic, with a density of 6.46 g/cm3, has an in-line transmittance of 70.7% at 1000 nm and a refractive index of 2.08 at 632.8 nm.

Transparent ceramics for lighting
Journal of the European Ceramic Society, 2009The development of ceramic arc lamps for optical applications requires consideration of materials other than sintered polycrystalline alumina (PCA). Regular PCA is translucent, not transparent. Except small-grained, regular PCA cannot be used for high luminance applications such as required by projection systems.

Transparent ceramics for sensor applications
SPIE Proceedings, 2013Transparent ceramics are finding applications in demanding optical applications were traditional mineral salts and amorphous materials are limited and single crystals are not practical. Polycrystalline ceramics offer a unique combination of mechanical, electrical and optical properties that allow window and dome applications and possibilities that were

Fabrication of transparent AlN ceramics
Journal of Materials Science, 2006Aluminum nitride (AlN) is mostly known for its high theoretical thermal conductivity (320 W mK−1). In present work, special attention has been given to the fabrication of transparent AlN ceramics. With a wide band gap (6.3 eV) [1], AlN can be made transparent, which when combined with its wear resistance make AlN attractive for some electrooptics ...

Development and characterization of transparent metal/ceramic and ceramic/ceramic nanomultilayers
2020Nanomultilayer (NM) systems have demonstrated desirable properties such as corrosion resistance, radiation tolerance, and high strength due to the interfaces and length scale effects. Additionally, multilayers have commonly been used in optical systems as the layer thicknesses can be tuned to be identical to interaction lengths of photons. Although NMs

Transparent Ferroelectric Glass-Ceramics
Ferroelectrics, 2004In recent years, there has been a resurgence of interest in transparent ferroelectric glass-ceramics (TFGCs), which are a special class of glass-ceramic composites that combine the low cost of fabrication and forming of transparent glass with the superior nonlinear optical and electro-optical properties of ferroelectric crystals.

Transparent Magnetic Glass‐Ceramics
Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 2005Transparent magnetic glass‐ceramics were produced by infiltrating nano‐porous glass with nitrate salts and firing. The resultant glass‐ceramics contained spinel ferrite nanocrystals that exhibited ferromagnetic and superparamagnetic behavior depending on composition and firing temperature. Transparency in the

Transparent Oxyfluoride Glass Ceramics
MRS Bulletin, 1998Low-phonon energy glasses are desirable hosts for rare-earth (RE) ions because they enable emission from RE energy levels that would otherwise be quenched in high-phonon energy glasses. Such emissions are of interest for fiber amplifiers operating at telecommunications wavelength band s of 1.31, 1.46, and 1.55μm, and for up-conversion lasers and three ...
