Transparent Ceramic Materials

2015
Various transparent ceramics have been fabricated by different processing techniques. Previously, it was accepted that, to be transparent ceramics, materials should have an isotropic lattice structure, i.e., cubic structure. However, as demonstrated in this chapter, some non cubic-structured materials can also be processed into transparent ceramics ...

Nanograined highly transparent yttria ceramics

Optics Letters, 2009
The field of transparent ceramics is enjoying a renaissance, as refractory oxides are being developed as alternatives to single crystals in high-performance laser systems. However, a significant challenge remains regarding the reduction of the grain size to sufficiently subwavelength dimensions in order to achieve the same degree of optical ...

Strength of transparent ceramic composites with spinel

Journal of Materials Science, 2019
Protective windows have to be very hard and possess a certain thickness to provide a good wear resistance, as well as low weight and cost to be used economically. But, common transparent systems like bulletproof glass are quite heavy because they need a minimum thickness to provide protection.

Transparent ceramics for lighting

Journal of the European Ceramic Society, 2009
The development of ceramic arc lamps for optical applications requires consideration of materials other than sintered polycrystalline alumina (PCA). Regular PCA is translucent, not transparent. Except small-grained, regular PCA cannot be used for high luminance applications such as required by projection systems.

Fabrication of LaGdZr2O7 transparent ceramic

Journal of the European Ceramic Society, 2013
Abstract A simple combustion method was used to synthesize LaGdZr2O7 powder and LaGdZr2O7 transparent ceramic was prepared by vacuum sintering at 1850 °C for 6 h. The final transparent ceramic, with a density of 6.46 g/cm3, has an in-line transmittance of 70.7% at 1000 nm and a refractive index of 2.08 at 632.8 nm.

Development and characterization of transparent metal/ceramic and ceramic/ceramic nanomultilayers

2020
Nanomultilayer (NM) systems have demonstrated desirable properties such as corrosion resistance, radiation tolerance, and high strength due to the interfaces and length scale effects. Additionally, multilayers have commonly been used in optical systems as the layer thicknesses can be tuned to be identical to interaction lengths of photons. Although NMs

Transparent Yb:YAG ceramics

2011
YAG ceramics doped with rare earth elements have been recently given a consistent attention as materials for various applications. The specific application depends on the doping element added. Addition of Yb is used for the production of active materials for solid state lasers, and YAG polycrystalline ceramics are promising materials for the ...
