Preliminary Experiments on Transpiration Cooling in Ramjets and Scramjets
52nd AIAA/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference, 2016Transpiration cooling systems are a promising approach to handle the high wall temperatures and heat loads generated in supersonic combustion ramjets (scramjets). The German Aerospace Center DLR has developed and set up a versatile test bench to investigate the applicability of transpiration cooling systems in scramjets and the phenomena resulting out

Downstream Effects of Transpiration Cooling
Journal of the Aerospace Sciences, 1961A Note on Two-Point Taylor's Series for Solving Ordinary Differential Equations MAURICE F I N E 671 I A PREVIOUS PAPER Kempner and Pohle 1 have shown that a linear viscoelastic column of the Maxwell type does not possess a finite critical time. The present note uses a different approach to examine columns of arbitrary initial curvature obeying ...

Two-Phase Transpiration Cooling
Volume 4: Heat Transfer; Electric Power, 1982Two-phase transpiration is shown to possess considerable potential for gas turbine cooling. In this concept, water fed into a porous component boils within the wall. The resulting steam issues from the hot surface forming the transpiration film. A model for the performance of such a system is developed.

Mean velocity and injectant concentration profiles are presented for the boundary layer on a flat plate with air injection through rows of discrete holes. An 8/1 pitch/diameter ratio was used. Three hole arrangements were studied in detail. For holes perpendicular to the surface, both in-line and staggered configurations were examined, while, for ...

Performance Investigation of Film and Transpiration Cooling
Volume 3: Turbo Expo 2004, 2004This paper presents an experimental investigation of the performance of film and transpiration cooling. Two circular tubes were used as test models, one consisted of sintered porous material with a mean porosity of 21% to create a transpiration cooling effect, and the other was made of solid material with four rows of discrete injection holes to ...

EVAPORATIVE COOLING EFFECTS ON TREE TRANSPIRATION
Acta Horticulturae, 2014Overhead sprinklers or micro-sprays are used in apple orchards in Australia to reduce the incidence of sunburn. Evaporative cooling occurs while the fruit surface remains wet and this is an effective way to lower fruit temperatures on hot days. The aim of the evaporative cooling is to apply the water at the right time, and at the right amount to ...

Two-dimensional transpiration-cooled nosetip
Journal of Spacecraft and Rockets, 1971An analysis is given for active transpiration cooling of re-entry-vehicle nosetips. Porouswall coolant flow and matrix/coolant energy exchange in this application are strongly twodimensional owing to thick-wall construction and large external streamwise pressure gradients.

Transpiration Cooling at Hypersonic Flight - AKTiV on SHEFEX II
11th AIAA/ASME Joint Thermophysics and Heat Transfer Conference, 2014The present paper presents the in-flight measurement of the transpiration cooling experiment AKTiV flown on the sub-orbital re-entry configuration SHEFEXII. Thermal response of the structure is measured just up- and downstream of a cooled sample with a non-cooled reference set-up on the opposite side of the vehicle. The measurement shows that the heat
