CO2 emissions and growth: A bivariate bidimensional mean‐variance random effects model

open access: yesEnvironmetrics, Volume 34, Issue 5, August 2023., 2023
Abstract We introduce a bivariate bidimensional mixed‐effects regression model, motivated by the analysis of CO2$$ {\mathrm{CO}}_2 $$ emission levels and growth on OECD countries from 1990 to 2018. The model is able to capture heterogeneity across countries and allows for a full association structure among outcomes, assuming a discrete distribution for

The effect of financial inclusion on urban population in Ghana

open access: yesSocial Science Quarterly, Volume 104, Issue 4, Page 742-760, July 2023., 2023
Abstract Background Ghana has witnessed rapid urban population growth over the past decades, which has led to vast environmental, settlement, human, and ecological issues. It is therefore extremely important to examine the factors that influence urban population growth in Ghana to provide policy directions for policymakers.

Gardening for wildlife: A mixed‐methods exploration of the factors underlying engagement in wildlife‐friendly gardening

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 5, Issue 2, Page 808-825, April 2023., 2023
Abstract Private domestic gardens have immense potential to contribute to urban biodiversity conservation. However, they are divided into small private plots and managed individually by garden owners. Therefore, engagement in wildlife‐friendly gardening (WFG), which entails alternative management and design choices, relies on the individual willingness

Incorporating pressure–volume traits into the leaf economics spectrum

open access: yesEcology Letters, Volume 26, Issue 4, Page 549-562, April 2023., 2023
We provide theoretical and empirical evidence for the coordination of pressure–volume traits and net CO2 assimilation and leaf structure. We measured these traits in 45 angiosperms and ferns, and showed strong correlations between mass‐based assimilation and capacitance and the turgor loss point.

Teacher and youth priorities for education for environmental sustainability: A co‐created manifesto

open access: yesBritish Educational Research Journal, Volume 48, Issue 5, Page 952-973, October 2022., 2022
Abstract What would it mean to put environmental sustainability at the heart of education? This article describes a process of inclusive, participatory manifesto‐making to identify young people's (aged 16–18 years) and teachers' priorities for education for environmental sustainability across the UK.

Recruitment prediction for multicenter clinical trials based on a hierarchical Poisson–gamma model: Asymptotic analysis and improved intervals

open access: yesBiometrics, Volume 78, Issue 2, Page 636-648, June 2022., 2022
Abstract We analyze predictions of future recruitment to a multicenter clinical trial based on a maximum‐likelihood fitting of a commonly used hierarchical Poisson–gamma model for recruitments at individual centers. We consider the asymptotic accuracy of quantile predictions in the limit as the number of recruitment centers grows large and find that ...

Burning material behaviour in hypoxic environments: An experimental study examining a representative storage arrangement of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, polyethylene bubble wrap, and cardboard layers as a composite system

open access: yesFire and Materials, Volume 46, Issue 1, Page 313-328, January/February 2022., 2022
Summary Cone calorimeter and controlled atmosphere cone calorimeter experiments were conducted on various samples. The intent of the tests was to examine the behavior of uniform and composite samples in a range of thicknesses, irradiances, and oxygen concentrations.
