Transportation noise is considered today a major environmental risk factor and an important public health issue, especially in urban settings. Road, railway, and aircraft transports can produce high levels of continuous or intermittent noise, which, upon continued exposure, may have both short- and long-term impacts. Relevant short-term impacts are the

The chapter discusses the regulation of noise from aircraft, aerodromes, traffic, and rail traffic. The chapter also discusses the effect on the value of property by noise by noise from the construction and use of public works, and sound insulation of premises. The regulation of rail traffic noise, including sound insulation, is also discussed.

Long-term exposure to residential transportation noise and mortality: A nationwide cohort study.
Environmental Pollution, 2023Studies have indicated that transportation noise is associated with higher cardiovascular mortality, whereas evidence of noise as a risk factor for respiratory and cancer mortality is scarce and inconclusive. Also, knowledge on effects of low-level noise

BACKGROUND Transportation noise increases the risk of ischemic heart disease (IHD), but few studies have investigated subtypes of IHD, such as myocardial infarction (MI), angina pectoris, or heart failure.

Burden of disease due to transportation noise in the Nordic countries.
Environmental Research, 2023BACKGROUND Environmental noise is of increasing concern for public health. Quantification of associated health impacts is important for regulation and preventive strategies.

NOISE-INDUCED UNIDIRECTIONAL TRANSPORT
Stochastics and Dynamics, 2001Constructive conditions for existence of unidirectional transport are given for systems with state-dependent noise and for forced thermal ratchets. Using them, domains of parameters corresponding to unidirectional transport are identified. Some results of numerical experiments are presented.

Long-term exposure to transportation noise and risk of type 2 diabetes: A cohort study.
Environmental Research, 2022BACKGROUND Some studies have found transportation noise to be associated with higher diabetes risk. This includes studies based on millions of participants, relying entirely on register-based confounder adjustment, which raises concern about residual ...

Transportation noise and incidence of hypertension
International Journal of Hygiene and Environmental Health, 2018The evidence on exposure to transportation noise and development of hypertension is inconclusive, mostly because of a lack of high quality studies of longitudinal design. This cohort study aimed at investigating the association between exposure to road traffic, railway or aircraft noise and incidence of hypertension.
