Transposition of the great arteries

Current Treatment Options in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2000
Transposition of the great arteries (TGA) is a lethal condition without intervention. Cross-sectional echocardiography is the diagnostic investigation of choice. Intravenous infusion of prostaglandin is employed to maintain ductal patency and allow mixing of blood, thus improving tissue oxygenation.

Coronary arteries in transposition of the great arteries

The American Journal of Cardiology, 1994
The topic of coronary arteries in transposition of the great arteries (TGA) is complex and confusing despite having been the subject of several recently published reports. One hundred thirty-three autopsy specimens of uncomplicated TGA were studied, with special attention to methodologic issues in anatomic description and classification.

Transposition of the great arteries in a cat

Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 1985
Transposition of the great arteries, a congenital cardiac disorder, was diagnosed in a 4-month-old domestic short-haired kitten. Angiography revealed a patent ductus arteriosis, with the pulmonary artery originating from the left ventricle and the aorta originating from the right ventricle. Blood gas analysis suggested a high ventricular septal defect.

Treatment of transposition of the great arteries

Current Opinion in Cardiology, 1997
Today, the arterial switch operation is the treatment of choice for patients with transposition of the great arteries. Midterm follow-up confirms the initial hopes for good systemic ventricular function and lack of arrhythmias. A two-stage operation can be performed in patients seen after 1 month of age or in subjects who have had an atrial switch ...

Echocardiography of transposition of the great arteries

Cardiology in the Young, 2012
AbstractThe successful diagnosis, surgical planning, and long-term care of children with transposition of the great arteries require high-quality cardiac imaging with echocardiography. Echocardiography must identify the relevant anatomic variants of transposition of the great arteries, such as of ventricular septal defects and aortic arch anomalies ...

Transposition of the great arteries

Kyobu geka. The Japanese journal of thoracic surgery, 2004
This report describes changes in the treatment strategy for transposition of the great arteries (TGA) undergoing primary arterial switch operation early in the neonates in our institution. Decrease in pulmonary vascular resistance after birth results in deterioration of left ventricular (LV) performance as a systemic ventricle and right ventricular (RV)

Transposition of the Great Arteries

2017
Transposition of the great arteries is a cardiac malformation, which is characterized by ventriculoarterial discordance. It is easily diagnosed by 2D echo in the precordial and subcostal views, confirming origin of the aorta from the morphologic right and of the pulmonary artery from the morphologic left ventricle.
