Extension and transtension in the plate boundary zone of the northeastern Caribbean

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 1991
We propose that the Caribbean (Ca)‐North American (NA) plate boundary zone (pbz) from the Puerto Rico Trench to the Venezuelan Basin from Mona Canyon east has been in left‐transtension over the last 15–20 ma. A boundary‐normal component of extension occurs throughout the pbz and is a principal cause of the Puerto Rico Trench.

ORIGIN OF MELTING ANOMALIES IN THE JAPAN-BAIKAL CORRIDOR OF ASIA AT THE LATEST GEODYNAMIC STAGE: EVOLUTION FROM THE MANTLE TRANSITION LAYER AND GENERATION BY LITHOSPHERIC TRANSTENSION

open access: yes, 2017
At the latest geodynamic stage that is characterized by forces and processes of the last 90 Ma the lithosphere of Asia has been reactivated due to four main force factors: 1) mantle melting anomalies, 2) subduction-related interaction between the Pacific

Farallon slab detachment and deformation of the Magdalena Shelf, southern Baja California [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Subduction of the Farallon plate beneath northwestern Mexico stalled by ~12 Ma when the Pacific-Farallon spreading-ridge approached the subduction zone. Coupling between remnant slab and the overriding North American plate played an important role in the

Regional rigid-block rotation, small domain rotations and distributed deformation within the Acambay graben, central Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt: paleomagnetic implications

open access: yesGeofísica Internacional, 1994
Declinaciones paleomagnéticas para unidades volcánicas dentro del graben de Acambay presentan rotaciones contrarias a las manecillas del reloj con respecto a las direcciones de referencia.

Variscan intra-orogenic extensional tectonics in the Ossa–Morena [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Following a Middle–Late Devonian (c. 390–360 Ma) phase of crustal shortening and mountain building, continental extension and onset of high-medium-grade metamorphic terrains occurred in the SW Iberian Massif during the Visean (c. 345–326 Ma).

Testing the Sensitivity of Anisotropy of Magnetic Susceptibility (AMS) to the Regional Tectonic Strain Field in Granite Plutons; Insights From Two Orogen-scale Studies

open access: yesTektonika
Anisotropy of Magnetic Susceptibility (AMS) fabrics within many individual granite plutons have previously been interpreted as recording the regional syn-magmatic tectonic strain field. To test this hypothesis, we compiled a regional database of AMS data
