The comment of Ikenne et al. concerns recently described U-Pb baddeleyite ages, around 1.71 and 1.65 Ga, obtained on intrusive sills and dykes in the Taghdout-Lkest Group in the SW domain of the Anti-Atlas (AA).

Experiments on granite intrusion in transtension
Geological Society, London, Special Publications, 2000Abstract Granite intrusion in transtensional regime is modelled by injecting a Newtonian fluid into a sand pack containing a ductile layer. The transtensional regime is obtained using two plastic sheets sliding along two rigid horizontal plates, and diverging from two narrow spaces (two fixed velocity discontinuities).

Transtension of the Romanche transform fault
Oceanology, 2006Areas of transtension are discovered in the western part of the Romanche transform fault. Geodynamical parameters of the transtension are calculated on the basis of three-dimensional modeling of the inversive magnetic layer using survey data. The interval spreading rates calculated on this basis appeared to be smaller (1.65 cm/y for paleoanomalies C1 ...

The Internal Structure of Dilational Stepovers in Regional Transtension Zones
International Geology Review, 2008We present a theoretical model and discuss field-based observations from the Carboniferous Northumberland Basin (UK), describing the structures developed at stepovers associated with regionally oblique divergence (i.e., transtension zones). We show that these structures have significantly different geometries and evolution compared to those found in ...

Partitioned transtension: an alternative to basin inversion models
Journal of Structural Geology, 2005‘Inversion structures’ (e.g. folds, reverse faults) spatially associated with basin-bounding faults are very widely recognised in rift basins in both onshore and offshore settings worldwide. The great majority of such structures are attributed to local or regional crustal shortening events.

Transtension in southeastern Africa associated with Gondwana break-up
Geological Society, London, Special Publications, 1998Abstract The southeastern margin of Africa is marked by a zone of complex faulting associated with crustal extension related to the Mesozoic break-up of Gondwana. The oldest age of faulting (180–175 Ma) displays differences in style in regions with Archaean as opposed to Proterozoic basement.

Transtension and alkaline magmatism of the Romanche Fracture Zone
Geotectonics, 2008New magnetometric, petrological, and geochemical data on basalts from the central Romanche Fracture Zone (FZ) allow us to classify these rocks into two groups. The igneous rocks from the active part of the fracture zone that experienced transtension are referred to as alkaline rocks.

It is difficult to relate polyphase deformational sequences to relative plate motions in pre-Mesozoic plate boundary zones. We give an account of the structural evolution of the Ordovician−Silurian rocks of South Mayo, western Ireland, which form a well ...

Transtension in Arcs and Orogens
International Geology Review, 2002Transtension is the oblique divergence between bounding plates or blocks that combines a coaxial orthogonal extension with a deformation zone boundary-parallel, noncoaxial, component, which generates a bulk constrictional strain. The coaxial component determines the rate and amount of crustal/lithospheric thinning and part of the horizontal extension ...
