Socket Considerations for the Patient With a Transtibial Amputation
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1999This paper reviews the theory of transtibial prosthetic socket designs from a historic perspective to the present. The patella tendon bearing socket originated in 1959, and is the standard from which the new alternative socket designs have evolved. Although the patella tendon bearing socket is still the most commonly prescribed socket for a transtibial

PCL Transtibial Tunnel Reconstruction
Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Review, 2019The keys to successful posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) reconstruction are to identify and treat all pathology, use strong graft material, accurately place tunnels in anatomic insertion sites, minimize graft bending, mechanical graft tensioning, secure graft fixation, and the appropriate postoperative rehabilitation program.

Modeling a transtibial prosthesis
2011 IEEE International Symposium on IT in Medicine and Education, 2011This article describes both the modeling of a transtibial prosthesis and its corresponding simulated response to static load using the commercial software package called “SolidWorks”. The simulation was conducted based on the finite element method. The prosthesis model implemented represents an 80Kgf-1.70m individual with a generic prescription.

Myoelectric Walking Mode Classification for Transtibial Amputees
IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, 2013Myoelectric control algorithms have the potential to detect an amputee's motion intent and allow the prosthetic to adapt to changes in walking mode. The development of a myoelectric walking mode classifier for transtibial amputees is outlined. Myoelectric signals from four muscles (tibialis anterior, medial gastrocnemius (MG), vastus lateralis, and ...

Summary: The optimal technique for a transtibial amputation in a young, active, and healthy patient is controversial. Proponents of the Ertl procedure (in which the cut ends of the tibia and fibula are joined with a bone bridge synostosis) argue that the residual limb is more stable which confers better prosthetic fit and improved function ...

To make a transtibial stump as long as possible, free from local and phantom pain with a maximum of terminal load bearing. In order to preserve the knee joint, an ultra-short tibial stump of 5-6 cm may be indicated.A hindfoot amputation level is not possible to achieve. In amputations for peripheral vascular diseases, amputations through the distal ...

Analysis and design of transtibial prosthesis
2017 CHILEAN Conference on Electrical, Electronics Engineering, Information and Communication Technologies (CHILECON), 2017The population status of disability of the lower limbs represents a challenge to recover locomotion, because they require costly interventions, depending on the characteristics of each patient's needs, prosthetic-orthotic needs, or elements that help in its displacement.
