Explicit imaging expressions for weak horizontal transverse isotropy

SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2002, 2002
SUMMARY Despite the recognized prevalence of vertical parallel cracks in reservoir rocks, the necessary imaging expressions for the weak HTI (horizontal transverse isotropy) system have not been studied in sufficient generality. With the exception of the P-wave phase velocity formula, the existing first-order HTI expressions are restricted to certain ...

Intrinsic and layer‐induced vertical transverse isotropy

GEOPHYSICS, 2003
Anisotropy caused by fine layering is often considered responsible for the differences between velocities obtained in sonic-log and seismic experiments. Understanding the link between the two is critical, especially in the current era of most wells being (highly) deviated.

Interaction between transverse isotropy rock slope and supporting structure

Journal of Central South University of Technology, 2008
In order to study the interaction between transverse isotropy rock mass and supporting structure, the laboratory tests for rock sampled from the slope at expressway project were carried out, and the parameters of elasticity for transverse isotropic rock were determined by the uniaxial compression tests for rock sample with different strike of ...

SYSTEMATIC CLASSIFICATION OF LAYER‐INDUCED TRANSVERSE ISOTROPY*

Geophysical Prospecting, 1981
AbstractWaves propagating through a sequence of layers that are thin compared with the wavelength show effects of anisotropy: velocity and displacement direction depend on the angle between the plane of layering and the wave normal, and shear waves split up into two distinct types of different velocity.

Transverse Isotropy Modeling of 3‐D Glulam Timber Beams

Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering, 1991
The mathematical modeling of glued-laminated (glulam) timber beams is greatly simplified by considering the material to be isotropic in the plane of the cross section. In this paper, the hypothesis of transverse isotropy for southern pine glulam beams is verified through an experimental torsion program.
