Transverse isotropy of thinly layered media [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Journal International, 1984
Summary. Three problems of seismic anisotropy in thinly layered media (TPM) are discussed: (1) A dependence is established for the character of the ray velocity of longitudinal low-frequency waves on the ratio of P- and S-wave velocities in thin layers. (2) Conditions are specified for cusps on SV-wave surfaces.

Assessing the Permeability in Anisotropic and Weakly Permeable Porous Rocks Using Radial Pulse Tests

open access: yesOil & Gas Science and Technology, 2014
The pulse test is usually considered to be an efficient method for measuring the permeability of weakly permeable porous rocks. Classically, the test consists of imposing a pressure drop on the base of a cylindrical sample and measuring the pressure ...

Semi-analytical solution to dynamic response of transversely isotropic layered foundation-thin plate structure under moving loads

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2021
To study the influences of anisotropy and dynamic parameters on the response of a layered foundation-thin plate structure, from the basis of the anisotropic elastodynamics, a semi-analytical solution to the dynamic response of TI layered foundation-thin ...

Deformation Development Mechanism in a Loess Slope With Seepage Fissures Subjected to Rainfall and Traffic Load

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2021
Loess landslides induced by rainfall and traffic load are significant hazards during the construction and operation of highways in many loess-covered areas. Studies of the deformation and stability of loess slopes with seepage fissures are limited.

Effect of Soil Anisotropy on Ground Motion Characteristics

open access: yesBuildings, 2023
Soil transverse isotropy results in different stiffness characteristics in horizontal and vertical directions. However, the effect is usually neglected in seismic motion analysis. In this study, an equivalent linear anisotropic soil model was established

Effective Potentials and Elastic Properties in the Lattice-Element Method: Isotropy and Transverse Isotropy [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Nanomechanics and Micromechanics, 2017
Lattice approaches have emerged as a powerful tool to capture the effective mechanical behavior of heterogeneous materials using harmonic interactions inspired from beam-type stretch and rotational interactions between a discrete number of mass points.

Effect of delta ferrites on the anisotropy of impact toughness in martensitic heat-resistant steel

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2019
To avoid brittle failure of the final-stage turbine blades, it is necessary to understand the anisotropy mechanism in martensitic heat-resistant steel 10Cr12Ni3Mo2VN.

Bedding plane-embedded augmented virtual internal bonds for fracture propagation simulation in shale

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Mechanics Letters, 2021
To effectively simulate the fracture propagation in shale, the bedding plane (BP) effect is incorporated into the augmented virtual internal bond (AVIB) constitutive relation through BP tensor. Comparing the BP-embedded AVIB with the theory of transverse

A new fifth parameter for transverse isotropy [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Journal International, 2015
Abstract Properties of a new parameter, ηκ, that is recently introduced by Kawakatsu et al. for transverse isotropy are examined. It is illustrated that the parameter nicely characterizes the incidence angle dependence of bodywave phase velocities for vertical transverse isotropy models that share the same P- and S-wave anisotropy.

New refined model for curved linear anisotropic rods with circular cross section

open access: yesApplications in Engineering Science, 2021
An asymptotic reduction method is introduced to construct a curved rod theory for a general anisotropic linearized elastic material. For the sake of simplicity, the cross section is assumed to be circular.
