Consistent Quadratic Phase Formation in 3D Fast Spin Echo Using Frequency‐Modulated RF Pulses

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose Frequency‐modulated (FM) RF pulses achieve broadband excitation with low RF peak power, which is required in MRI with inhomogeneous magnetic fields. However, the quadratic phase generated with FM pulses makes it difficult to use them in fast spin echo (FSE), because even and odd refocused echoes have different spatial phase profiles ...

Bending Analysis of Thickness‐ and Shear‐Deformable Materially Imperfect Composite Shells With von Kármán‐Type Geometric Nonlinearities

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mechanical System Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Geometrically nonlinear static analysis of materially imperfect composite doubly curved shells is investigated via the generalised differential quadrature method. The effects of both shear and thickness deformation are considered through a thickness‐ and shear‐deformable third‐order theory formulated in curvilinear coordinates, while the ...

Lessons Learned From Using Simple Supervised Learning Tools on Small‐Ensemble Data—Applicability to Tunnel Design and Monitoring

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Integrating interdisciplinary strategies with artificial intelligence (AI), particularly machine learning (ML), is an effective way of addressing urgent engineering challenges. Therefore, a thorough evaluation of existing methodologies is essential, taking into account their respective strengths, limitations and opportunities.

Transversely isotropic elasticity tensors

Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. A. Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1987
A representation formula for the elasticity tensor of a linearly elastic, transversely isotropic material is obtained, depending on eight constants. If, besides rotations about the axis of symmetry, reflections with respect to planes through that axis are also regarded as admissible symmetry transformations for the material, it is shown that the number

Traveltime computation in transversely isotropic media

GEOPHYSICS, 1993
An approach for calculating first‐arrival traveltimes in a transversely isotropic medium is developed and has the advantage of avoiding shadow zones while still being computationally fast. Also, it works with an arbitrary velocity grid that may have discontinuities. The method is based on Fermat’s principle.

Scattering by an infinite transversely isotropic cylinder in a transversely isotropic medium

Wave Motion, 1998
Abstract The scattering by an infinite circular cylinder in a transversely isotropic, elastic medium is considered. The symmetry axis of the medium is parallel to the cylinder axis. The cylinder may be transversely isotropic with symmetry axis along the cylinder axis, or as special cases isotropic or a cavity.
